Looks great. I like the cold air box on the airaid unit.
Have you priced out that sensor yet? Mine is just held in by friction of the grommet. Tab not required.

Nope haven't. The tab is the locking tab for the stock intake, so not needed on the new system. However, if I go back to stock, I'll need to replace it so that the sensor locks into place correctly.

Just a MPG update...last tank, around town (combo of hiway and city) driving netted a whopping 17.5 MPG....
Now that makes me happier....lol....best MPG I had before was 16.5 and avg. MPG was 15.5 - 16.....I let you know if the 1-1.5 MPG improvement continues...
Makes me feel bad for our old friend Rich with his 8 MPG....lolol....

Ok so DREDnot installed the AEM and n3cr0shark installed the Airaid. My question is why not a K&N? It’s been a couple of months now, are you guys still happy with the intakes that were installed. Are you guys still getting better gas mileage? I’m trying to figure out which intake I want to install in my ’05 and that’s why I asked all these questions.
Thanks Guys.

I just installed a aem filter that i picked up at a 4wd parts show in orlando. mine had the temp sensor hole already in it on the bottom of the pipe. The install was easy and i to have noticed a little more pep to the throttle responce. plus it no longer nose dives when starting out in 2nd gear.

I took it off because there is no benefit to any of the aftermarket filter systems for the Wrangler. The stock system provides more than enough airflow to the engine.

Both setups with the K&N cone filter that got rid of the stock box showed 9-10hp and 8trq better, it may not be as noticeable on the street, but it does aid in airflow

Wow....I really thought, (no testing, etc. BUT, seat-of-pants...), that the open element air filter set-ups, (K&N, AEM, etc.), sure make it "feel" like it adds a lil' something-something.

There are dozens of tests out there that will tell you there is no noticable difference between stock and aftermarket filter setups at normal operating rpm's. I bet your hp gain was over 4000 rpm and most people will never let their rpm's that high. Most people think they get more pep because they just spent $200 and they don't want to believe they just waisted all that money. The only neat thing about (if you don't mind even more noise when the top is off) is the K&N makes your engine "sound" like it is getting more hp. As far as fuel savings - In my case my mpg went DOWN by 1 mpg.

Well, I've had mine for a few months and the MPG has settled to a nice steady 16-16.5 MPG...pretty constant...I won't say that 'slight' uplift is significant (If I remember from my statistics course, that little amount is considered statistically insignificant). but it still FEELS like it has much more pep. irregardless what the nay sayers out there. Yes, it's a bit 'louder' than a stock box, but not noticably and definitely not something I notice with the top down (course I listen to the radio loud too)...
As for why not K&N? I really didn't like the design of the airbox and intake. Nothing more than that. I would have gone with the AEM as I liked thiers better but they were rude when I asked about the air sensor. Overall, once I replaced what I considered the inferior fastenors, the Airaid has been pretty decent...
