I finally found somebody that stocked the new style dryflow intake Install was easy and everything was included. The only modifications I made was drilling a 5/8 hole for the intake temp sensor and grommit to hold it, and covering the outside if the heatshield with insulating wrap. Throttlebody spacer came with two gaskets ,risers for the thottle cable bracket, and all the longer bolts I have been reading all the opinions about how these things dont deliver any appreciable gains, so I went with the AEM mainly for the clean lines and neat turbo diesel look of that big grey pipe. But, I can honestly say I noticed an improvement in most areas I would expect it to make a difference, throttle response, passing, and WOT. It also has an aggressive sound to it when it is doing its thing. The first test was the uphill onramp dragrace...Definate improvement and not just the placebo effect Gas mileage data will follow after a couple of tanks

So that is an AEM intake specifically made for an '05?
Or is it an earlier model?
I know you said you had to drill and grommet for the air sensor. Where these parts included?
I'm just wondering because I have been waiting for an '05 AEM intake, and I'm surprised that they didn't make the modifications necessary to facilitate the air sensor, and instead leave it up to the purchaser to drill & modify.
Any clearification would be awesome!
btw- I know peeps told me that I wouldn't notice when I did it on my 00TJ BUT, I know what I felt and it did make some changes in the same areas that you mentioned.

I've been thinking about adding one of those for a while too. I'm not too concerned about the small horsepower increase, but a little more torque would be nice for towing my quads around...
Have you had it on long enough to determine if it makes any difference in gas mileage??

Nice writeup. I to have looked at these. I would be interested in any MPG improvement if you notice any.

Ditto to what RubiRed said....I have contacted AEM but yet to hear back about an 05 version...
Any chance to get a pic of the Temp Sensor mod you made???

As far as the temp sensor they have not made an 05 model yet, but I remember reading about the fact that AIRAID made one for the 05 and all they did was add a hole and grommet. After seeing that I decided to get the old style as soon as they had the new dry filter. The kit did not include the grommet or hole. All I did was get a bag of assorted grommets and found one that fit the sensor snug and then measured the groove I.D. while on the sensor(it stretches). Then I drilled a hole silghtly smaller than the goove(around 5/8" for the grommet I had) and hand filed it to fit . It is not a common drill size. I located the hole as close as possible to the stock location as I could by eye. As far as MPG, I have only had one honest tankfull that did not include some(or lots of) WOT fun . With the one tank, though, it did go from 13.7 before to 14.3 so I will update.

Are you worried about warranty issues?

You're calling this a "dry filter".... It looks like an oiled filter like a K&N. Is the dry filter cleanable and reusable or do you have to buy a new filter each time??? This may be a stupid question...but I needed clarification...

BTW, it looks like you have AC. Did you have any problems fitting around the AC lines? The write up over at JU indicated that they had to do some trimming because of the fit with the AC lines, thus the question...
also, where'd you get the insulation for the heat shield? Was it hard to mount or does it have a self-stick side?
BTW, thanks for the pictures. I probably won't wait anymore....

The new style Dryflow filter is not oiled and is supposed to be cleaned and reused. It comes with one set of cleaning solution good for 1 cleaning. I think they have all the info and a video showing the procedure on their website trucks.aempower.com/As far as the AC lines, where they go under the shield on the bottom the hard lines are almost touching the edge with a possibility of rubbing if you flex or something. I just used a cannel lock to bend the edge to give about a 1/4" of clearance for my peace of mind. No biggie The soft line on the engine side of the shield just rest lightly on the insulation and have shown no evidence of abrasion The insulation itself came from home depot and is used to insulate garage doors and stuff. I used some 3M spray trim adhesive to bond it to the shield and some aluminum tape to seal the edges ,also from home deeps. All in all, it was easy to cut out and apply. An alternative is Jeg's, they have a good selection of self adhesive sheet insulation www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=20801&parentCategoryId=10633&langId=-1

Cool and thanks for the info!!! Agreed it looks like a good job.
Funny thing you mentioned Jeg's. They have a store about a mile away from me and I was looking at ourchasing the AEM kit from them (run about $239 there or did which seems a lot cheaper than other places). Anyone seen these cheaper? And did you check to see if Jeg's carried the Dry filter kit instead of the older oiled filter? (LOL....I figure I could always just stop in on my way home from work too...and they are right in front of the local Home Depot as well so I could pick it all up real quick...LOL)

OK, thought I'd post this here instead of starting a new thread... I finally went with the Airaid instead of the AEM set up because of how AEM treated me when I called them about plans for an '05 setup. I am overall satisfied with the Airaid intake although I had to replace a few bolts (I did write Airaid about my issues). I do feel a significant increase in WOT response. I'll post back about gas mileage difference later as I only installed it tonight... Edited to put in better pics (during the day versus at night)... Note: Airaid does have a gromet for the Air Sensor (although I broke a tab on my sensor so to put it back to stock, I'll have to buy a new sensor). Also, I got this from AJUSA.com. They had free shipping and I got $25 instant savings (which I used for the pre-filter that you see in the photo)....All in all $240 although it doesn't include the throttle spacer that the AEM has (can be bought seperately).
