The old TJ Sport was acting a little odd, so I caved and decided to jump at the chance for a new Jeep instead of waiting the two months I was planning on.
We picked up a black 2007 X Unlimited on Wednesday. Wow! What a different ride than what I was used to. We got a great deal (thanks to the girlfriend who told the GM at the dealership he was obnoxious and to leave us alone). We walked in with a 1% below invoice certificate and didn't even need to use it because we got a better deal. $24,000 out the door (incl. $3000 for my trade over what I owed) with both tops, the "S" package, limited slip, DVD changer, Sirius, and the power package. We didn't even want the last three items, but that turned out to be our biggest help in negotiations.
By the end of summer I want to do a 2" lift and get some 33's for it. From what I've read, this is the best way to go for a basic "getting started" upgrade.
Any other suggestions??

Congratulations on the new ride, and Welcome to the board.
If you are going 33's on the stock wheels you may want to try out the 33x10.5 BFG's. They will fit with no wheel spacers, and there is no need for an aftermarket wheel. Have fun.

Congrats with the purchase!!! 33's and a small lift will make your rig very capable. Get that thing off road and take some pictures. We don't have many (or any) action shots of the 4-doors.

Thanks for the replies. I have a quick question here. I was at Sam's Club today and they had Dunlop Mud Rovers for about $130 each in 265/75R16. This would give me about a 32" tire and allow me to run the same rims for now without a lift. It was $550 (or so) for four, mounted and balanced.
Would these be decent starter tires or should I just wait and get a package deal of rims and tires in 33" from 4WD Hardware for about $880 mounted and balanced (Pro Comp Mud Terrain)? Shipping isn't an issue as I live just about an hour away from them.
Thanks!

I don't know anything about the Dunlap tires. If you are happy with 32's and they fit the budget, why not. But if you really want larger tires don't settle for these. Wait and get what you really want. There is way to much to buy for the Jeep without going back and redoing things, or waiting for a set of tires wears out. Look at www.tirerack.com for tires and reviews by people that run them. You might get some good info there. Good Luck!

Moneypit speaks the truth. Few things will affect your everyday enjoyment of the Jeep more than tires. You have to think about how you intend to use your rig, and get exactly the tires you want, because you have to live with them for at lest a couple years, unless you're made of money.
I like MT style tires, because I play in the rocks. However, I ended up going with Goodyear MT/R's (even though they are not mud terrain), because they are so good in the rocks and they are very durable. Now, a mud tire is going to be prone to road noise, and possibly poor performance on wet pavement. They can also be heavier, which eats gas mileage and makes them harder to balance.
The Dulops may be the best thing on the market, I just don't know. If you like the MT style, you might also consider the Cooper Discovery STT, which I've been hearing good things about, including a mild and quiet ride.
Don't settle. Get what you want, even if you have to wait. You'll be so much more satisified, especially with tires.
