Hi from Florida! My 2006 Unlimited (red, soft top, sun rider) is about 2 weeks old. We were actually out to trade in my husband's Titan truck, and ended up trading in my 2003 Wrangler, too. It had only 13,000 miles in 3 years, but I can tell already that this Unlimited is going to be getting a lot more use! We both love it. It's like a new toy. We opened the sun rider top, took the windows off, and took it off-road today just in some nearby rural areas and had a blast on what looked like some well-used dirt--or sand-- trails. I've been reading everyone else's posts for the past week or two, including the older posts. I got a kick out of what someone said about how they would take their wife out in the jeep and then get her to agree that new jeep parts were needed. That's about what happened today. We ended up ordering things on line when we got home. So far, we're just getting a Mopar top cover, storage for the windows, floor mats, and a mat for the back. No, no wench or even side steps...yet. We saw the new 2007 Rubicon Unlimited on line. My husband liked it, and we might have ended up going back for it, if it were on the lot right now. Since it won't be available until the fall, we'll probably pass on that one. I'm not sure I care for the looks with the four doors, although they are very practical. I agree with some of the other members who said the 2007 looks like an H-2 or 3. I think it also looks like a Cherokee with a different back to it. I think if both had been on the lot, I'd still pick the one I have. I love it! Glad to find a common ground with other Unlimited owners...by the way, I checked through the member list to make sure I'm not the only female here! It just made sense to join. If I ever need answers, I'm sure I'll find help here. Susan ssbeagle PS-This is probably every "greenhorn's" question. I hate to ask, but tell me more about the jeep karma thing. I already made my husband leave the dry brush from the field on the jeep. (I told him about the jeep hierarchy and point system! No mud points yet, though.)

Welcome to the board. It is one of the sites I check all the time and there are alot of great people on the board.
Jeep Karma is just a points system on the board where you kind of give some one a thumbs up, thanks or something along those lines. However, if you get into some of the older threads about a guy named Rich, you will see that Jeep Karma can also be used to express other feelings.
Good to have you here. +1 Karma point for joining.

This site is a daily stop for me too. Every other site, including the club I'm joining is nothing but "My rig is better than yours" sort of stuff!" Here, you'll get down to earth jeepers, with a huge offering of help, advic e, ect. I give you a point of jeep karma for not saying eewww if alittle mud lands on your white dress!

Welcome aboard Susan. In my previous life, I was heavily into vintage corvettes and a particular corvette forum. That's how I met my wife. I had a '69 bigblock and lived in Maryland, she had an '84 and lived in Arizona. I always found that a nice mix of sexes livened up the conversations because you always got different angles on topics. Your input here will be very welcomed, as well as the other members of the fairer gender.
I think you'll like this site. Like Jeepnut said, there's very little showboating here, just lots of great people with a common passion. And there appears to be no need to warn you about the "empty every pocket" sickness, because you appear to have already caught the bug.
Have you ridden without the top and doors yet? That's hard to stop, once you've tried it. As the temperatures rise here, I'm lamenting the fact that I'm going to have to put the doors back on soon.

Funny you say that. I have had the top and doors off for the past two weeks.
Colorado weather being what it is, the temperature is supposed to drop 20-30 degrees in the next few days. I don't know if I can go back to tops and doors again. I am thinking all I need is more clothes and to suck it up again until it is warm.

Thanks, everyone, for the friendly welcome (and the karma)! Our last "fun" car was a Chevelle Super Sport I inherited when my grandfather developed Alzheimer's and couldn't drive it anymore. He bought it new when he was in his 60's, and drove it well (and fast) into his 80's. It was kind of a marine blue with white stripes down the front hood. My husband used to get the biggest kick out of taking friends out in it and literally taking them for a spin--all the way around--360! We lost that car when someone crossed 4 lanes and totaled it. It was a great car! As for the new jeep, we've taken off the windows and raised the SunRider top, but that's all. Today I learned to put those back on! I looked through the manual to read how to take the top off completely and discovered you really don't have to. You can just take it down and fold it all the way down so that it sits by the back gate (after the side windows are off). Has anyone done that, are do ya'll just take it off anyway? (Yes, I said "ya'll". I'm not native FL, but originally from TX. My husband is from Long Island, but I met him in TX and never new he wasn't from there! He even got the "Bob" nickname while there, and it has stayed with him 20something years!) Susan ssbeagle PS: I saw a great license plate frame I wish I could put on my jeep, even though it's not about jeeps. It says, "My beagle is smarter than your honor student." I think that's a riot, but I teach, so I guess that wouldn't be very good PR!

to answer your question yes I used to fold the top down, but I discovered that it was a royal pain to put anything in the back, or get it out so I just started taking it off. now I just run without doors and with a safari top and life is good.

I don't remove the top I just fold it down. Like you I live in Florida and you never know when the thunderstorms will pop up. My top has been down a couple weeks and I carry the windows in a Clover bag just in case the weather turns for the worst. Not so bad right now but when the wind changes to off of the ocean the storms will start.

I didn't know him back then but my wife says it was a monster. My favorite story involves the brother-in-law (Rick) taking the father and father's marine buddy for a ride. Rick drove, father riding shotgun, and friend in the back seat. Father (6'4") says, "show him what it'll do". Rick mashes the gas and the passenger seat shears all the bolts off, leaving dad (seat and all) in friend's lap. That's American power.

Holy Cow, Jeep Guru! I did a double-take when I saw Sue-bob. I don't think anyone has called me that, other than my husband, in almost 25 years! I met my husband when I was working a summer job in, ironically, the automotive dept. of a Sears back in Texas, and he was managing the dept. at the time. Like I said, everyone had "Bob" added to their name. (It got to be a joke, even calling the dogs "Bob".) Of course, I ended up getting named that, too. My husband still calls me that some time.
By the way, he just came home with new stainless steel dual exhaust pipes added to his new Titan LE. (Show off! See, I'm the Jeep driver in the family! I told him I guess that I'll have to get lifts for the jeep now! What I really want right now is a whole lot of chrome--bumpers, grill, etc.)
You can call me ssbeagle, Susan , or even Sue-Bob---but only 'cause you guys drive jeeps!
