Like others, I am glad I found this board. I have always wanted to own a Jeep but it never seemed practical until I saw the Unlimited and was only finding information here and there.
I ordered a brand new Deep Beryl Green/Khaki hard top 2006 Unlimited Sport H package through the Overseas program. I was wondering if anyone had some pictures of something similar as they haven't even built the Jeep yet.
Anyone know if there are any big differences between the 2006 and 2005 models?
Thanks, Chris

No big differences that I've heard of. I did see that color combo at the auto show this year...it was very nice.
The overseas car buying program is cool. I did that back in 96 when I was over in the Gulf.

Thanks for the response and the wave.
I also had one more question:
Is the hard top really worth it if I plan on taking it on and off? I heard that the soft top is really loud and sounds like a tent flapping when going down the road.
I live in Colorado when I am not deployed and may move the the southeast when I get back. In other Jeeps I have ridden, I love having the top down and would like to take it down often, but I am concerned about he flash rain fall that would occur and the pain of taking the top on and off by hand. Would a safari or bikini top be enough of a replacement for those days when we get a flash storm? (at least for the driver?)
Thanks again.

Hey Chris! I woke up this morning and no planes flew into buildings. Thanks for taking the fight to them. Freedom, hot meals, cold beer, and a brand new Jeep await your return. Remember the hard-focus on the front sight and a gentle trigger press. Stay alert and come home safe. You guys rock! (we need a rifle-toting smiley.) Come wheelin' with us in Arizona. I'll spring for the beer and gas.

Thanks for the great reply. It never gets old hearing from those that support us back on the home front.
Arizona, beer, New Jeep. Sounds like a dream.
Now about that hard top versus soft top? Would it be better to hold off on the hard top and purchase a best top later?
Thanks again, Chris

my get the hardtop now & get a hoist for it to take it off. I prefer having a hardtop & always read about people wanting hardtops that didn't have them from the git go. For long trips or for the coldest part of winter you'll be glad to have the hardtop. Then in the spring/summer/fall just use a bikini top & half doors, I love that combo as far as posting pictures here's a great thread explaining how: - click here-

Yep, get the hard top...it's easy to take on and off, even if you don't have a hoist. You'll just need a friend to help lift off the other side, and a safe place to store it.
I bought the 1/2 cab soft top kit for mine which is nice for the rain storms we get in Oregon...but for the most part I drive with no top (on the Jeep) in the warm/dry months. For any long road trips, the hard top is VERY NICE...
Since you're doing the overseas program (and saving some dough)...if you can swing it, get the dual tops option...then you'll have the best of both worlds. I would have gotten that if it were an option on the 04 models.

I second the dual top option, if you can swing it. I have the soft top only, and ride with it open most of the year. It doesn't flap that bad at all. There's a little bit of flappage, but the stereo more than covers it. I've run it like this up to 80mph.
Armored Cav, that's the sound of freedom. I've seen the Abrams up close and in action at Fort Carson. What an impressive killing machine, and quieter than my old '69 vette. That's got to be a warm ride over there this time of year.
Have the IED's calmed down any or are they still taking pot shots at you guys? Can you take pot shots back?

Thanks for the help. I still haven't decided but maybe I will go with the duals. I plan on keeping the Jeep forever anyway.
Anyway, I tried to get some pictures up, but I am not having much luck trying to figure out the photo bucket. I assume that it is just to paste a link and that to put pictures on the message board they have to be emailed in.
Thanks again for the advice.

Nice setup on that M16 Chris. Accessory rail, colapsible stock, ACOG, forward pistol grip, flashlight. You tank guys need to do much CQB?
Those Cav hats are pretty functional in that kind of sun. Hopefully the dark color isn't too much of a heat sink.
All is well stateside, as long as you don't reside in AL, MS, or LA. They've got it hard right now. We'll take care of them.

Hey Chris! First, thanks so much for the awesome job you guys are all doing over there. Great pictures! And Second, I don't mind the softop myself. It doesn't make near as much noise as I had expected. And I still stay pretty toasty in the winter time.
You Guys Kick Ass!

Give 'em Hell Chris. I got goosebumps seeing the Abrams on the move. As a fellow veteran, and fellow tanker, I give you guys all the credit in the world. Stay safe, and God Bless.

Here are a couple of photos of the guys I served with, some of whom will soon be heading back to Iraq for round 2. These were taken in Kuwait between 8/01 and 1/02. I'm the guy in the middle with the butter bar on his helmet. These photos are of the guys of 3rd Platoon, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 34th Armored Regiment, 1st Brigade (Seperate), 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
