Does anyone find the rear of the stock unlimited a tad soft? I don't know if it's me since I am used to a yj with a superlift kit.
If so, are there any cheap ways to stiffen the coils (I already have the BB)
Thanks

It may be the difference in the wheel base.. I actually wish mine was softer, guess I'm getting old LOL

I find that with my dogs, and some camping gear, it often runs out of travel, and hits the bumpstops. Maybe its normal.....its my first TJ

I dunno but I'd go at it with different springs not spacers, just my

You can buy a set of Rubicon or Rubicon Unlimited coils for pretty cheap. They are a little stiffer than the ones that come on the Unlimited.
On the standard Unlimited, I believe (I'd have to go and look) that we have the 130AB spring tag on our coils. The next stiffer ones are the 131AA tagged springs that are on the Rubicons. It may help, but you may be better off with a set of 2" lift springs from an aftermarket company and just ditching the BB altogether...

Are aftermarket lift springs generally stiffer??? Not always, but some companies (OME, Rusty's, and a couple others) offer some stiffer spring rates....you just have to know which ones to order. I'd talk to a rep from one of the companies and exlpain to them EXACTLY what you want. Lot's of things come into play...Heavier front bumper, winch, heavier rear bumper w/ tire carrier, gast tank skid plates, beefed up under chassis skidplates, rocker protection, etc... All of this stuff adds weight and will change the way the springs ride. I'd personally go for stiffer springs that are rated for the weight your Jeep will be after all the aftermarket stuff is installed. I'm going to put on new bumpers and skids this Winter, and then start looking for the right set of springs.

They should fit just fine. I'd get it aligned afterwards though since the Rubi springs should sit a "little" higher due to less sag.

Do you think they will "help"compensate for a winch, and some gear??? Oh, and don't forget the dogs.

Originally I was going to go with a set of Rubicon springs in my LJ. I did some research and for the most part what I've heard is that you'll only realy notice the difference going from an SE model to the Rubicon springs. You may gain a 1/4" to 1/2" of clearance on your LJ, but I doubt you'll look at it when you're done and think..."Yep, that's exactly what I wanted."
I find that the rear end is just fine for me on/off road, but that the front is too soft for my liking when off road. I plan on buying some 3" front springs from Rustys and removing my 2" Spacers up front. (Need to compensate for the weight of my winch and future bumper addition) I may put their 2" springs in back too, but I haven't decided yet. It will only cost $110 for the front springs plus shipping. If I like how it turns out, I'll probably put their 2" springs in back...we'll see.
You could always go with an adjustable shock like the Rancho RS9000 and set them really stiff in the back. That may give you the "feel" you're looking for.

Sounds like the way to go. The sales manager where I bought my jeep did the exact setup to his tj swb. 3" spings up front to help with the winch, and 2" spacers in the back.
When I am offroad empoty, the ride is perfect....just a little soft with the gear and dogs. I guess I am just used to leaf springs.

I guess I'll need new front shocks with 3" springs???

Would stiffer shocks help? I know when I added my BB and Rancho 5000's it has a slightly stiffer feel to it.
