If you plan on wheeling at all, the K&N Air Filter will let water in more easily also. As we all know, water doesn't compress, so something in the engine is going to give....just my .02

Good advice! I'll save $45 by not getting the K&N. I do moderate off-roding here and there. Not many places to go around here. Kentucky has opened a new park (Kentucky Outback Adventure Park) for off roding, I had a group of guys ready to go and they shut down because they need an entertainment license. Hopefully they will reopen soon.

Re: K&N Saw a nice article about the effectiveness (and downside) of free-flow intake systems like K&N on AutoBlog today: home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htmBasically, it works but it's effectiveness reduces considerably with dirt. As already mentioned, if you live out West and don't like the idea of regularly cleaning the filter it's probably not worth it. Personally, I'm looking at a snorkel for it's ability to pull in cool air, and possibly have the same effect. At least, that's what I'm telling my wife as why I'm looking at a snorkel.

Thats also a good idea! I just saw an episode of "Trucks" where they turned a TJ sport into a Tomb Raider jeep including the snorkel. It looked sharp! I'll have to rewatch it on the DVR and see which brand it was and post it. The snorkel has passed through my mind before.

It's the ARB Safari Snorkel. They're a great addition if you do many water crossings. They also draw air from a cooler and cleaner source.
Just keep in mind there are other worries for deep water crossings, like tranny and diff vent tubes, electronics, etc.
I've done a few crossings, and they are cool. I've also seen what water does to an engine, which increases the pucker factor.

I think some people just put on a snorkel and automatically think they can forge 5ft. deep water! Here in the midwest, (Badlands, Cliffs, Rockport...), the ARB snorkels are like magnets for trees. The trails are heavilly wooded, and very tight. It's not uncommon to pitch your Jeep left or right and come VERY close to trees with your windsheild frame. My brother ran one, and at least 3 other Jeep buddies who I wheel with, have put them on, and then when they flatfendered, taken them off. Just my observations. Just like anything, I'm sure some people run the snorkels and, never encounter a problem. Ryan
