Last week my buddy bought an unlimited. he loves the truck, however, now he wishes he didnt get the longer wrangler because he feels its not sporty enough. He is driving me nuts as he keeps asking my opinion on its looks. I explained to him really the only difference is the 10 inches in the cargo area. he cant return the truck because he would take a huge finacial hit, but he told me he knows of a place who can turn the unlimited into a normal size wrangler. Can this in fact be done without costing him a fortune? Rich..

No. You're talking about cutting 10" from the middle of the frame, another 5" from the rear of the frame, and equal amounts from the body and floor. Then you'd be left with an oversized driveshaft, brake lines, and whatever the hell else is under there. The rear seat would need to be relocated. Are you seeing a pattern here? Tell your friend to trade it in on a Miata. He doesn't sound like he belongs in a Jeep anyway.

Yeah, it wouldnt be worth it. He will be fine. He loves the wrangler but he is worried now that the longer wrangler isnt sporty enough which is nuts. In my opinion, the unlimited is even sportier than the regular sized wrangler. I had the smaller wrangler(a 95 Jeep Wrangler S), and while that was a great Jeep, it didnt ride as nice as the unlimited . The unlimited drives a lot like my 2001 jeep cherokee sport. He wont trade it in, he just probably needs to get used to the look of the unlimited. He loved mine when he saw it which led him to get one. jeep wranglers rock! Rich..

The thing that gets me is he traded in his 2003 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to get the Unlimited. He is just probably still attached to his old vehicle and needs to get used to the unlimited. He did say the Unlimited is worse on gas than his Rubicon was. Can that be true? Rich....

If he doesn't think it is sporty enough for him, send him to all the major Jeep vendors, like Alloy USA, Teraflex, Fabtech, Full Traction, and the like. Look at their flagship vehicles and you find they are all Unlimiteds. Have him spend his "conversion" money on 4" of lift and 33" tires and see if he still feels the same. Unlimited's look a little weird until they are lifted, then they rock.

I teach 9th graders and a lot of my students love my Unlimited. I had one kid ask if he could borrow it so that he could take a girl to a dance. He was from a wealthy family and drove a Mini Cooper, and wanted to trade for the night. I told him sorry, it wasn't going to happen. The kid just loves my Jeep! It won't surprise me if he has one soon.

I hear ya Ridge. The cargo space definitely comes in handy with 2 kids as well. My daughter who is five asked me if she could have my jeep when she turns 17. I said sure, it should be paid off by then. haha But seriously, the kids and wife all love the unlimited. Its a great vehicle that delivery a great ride, dependability, versatility utility and fun. love it. Rich
