Hello to everyone.
My first question:
Is there an aftermarket "harness" that i can attach to a pulley system to be able to remove the hard top off my jeep?
Saturday I bought a Navy Blue Unlimited Rubicon, manual, dual top, cruise and dimming mirror.
I love it, and the more and more I look at it the more swb jeeps look weird. ;D
More questions to come....nice forum.

Not to my knowledge. What I did was take my SWB harness and replace the 1x1 piece of stock with a longer one and redrilled a hole for the hook.
It works great, the LJ's top has been dangling from the garage ceiling for about a month now.

But there is an aftermarket harness out there for swb?
Or did you make yours?
Thanks

Quadratec and 4WD Hardware both sell a hard top hoist that is made specifically for the Unlimited hard top. I think it's made by a company called "Lange".
I will buy one next year for mine (after I'm done building my shop). But for my current 8' high garage ceilings it isn't practical. I think you'd need at least 10' ceilings in your garage to keep from bumping your head on the top when suspended from the ceiling. So...this weekend, my top is going into a corner of a friends barn to be put on some padded sawhorses and wrapped in some old king-sized sheets to keep it clean. My half-cab soft top showed up last week.

www.quadratec.com/cgi-bin/sgsh0101.exe HOIST-A-TOP ONE PIECE UNLIMITED TOP 014-500 Is this the one I need? I am also looking for a hitch to put on the jeep. the Nth degree TT, would this raise the look at the transfer case?

Yup...that's the one for the Unlimited.
What kind of hitch do you want? There is a topic on here about them...would be a good place to start. I have a Hidden Hitch class 3 receiver hitch on mine. It bolted up really easy and hasn't hung me up yet out on the trails. Others say get the bumper with a hitch...it's really your call. Someday I may end up with a hitch bumper... I guess I'll know for sure after the Jeep Jamboree this Summer. If my hitch isn't a problem on those trails, I think I'll just leave it there. I tow a 12-foot trailer with anywhere from 1 to 3 ATV's on it, so I like the "Secure" feeling of having a hitch that is rated for the weight that I'm towing.
No experience with the Tummy Tucker kit, but I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about it.

Anybody have measurments or pictures of the har top hoist?
I am thinking I could make my own if I have a good picture.

Yes, you could make your own with just some 1x1 stock and some larger pieces to slide over or inside them. The problem with me taking pics is the tops in the ceiling and I'm not sure any pics would be good enought for you to use.
I bought my hoist a top from quadretec and did use it for a few years on my swb. For the LJ, I just replaced the rear bar and drilled a new hole.
The set up is basically a T bar bolted together long enought to go from left to right and then to the rear with large L shape hooks that grab onto the hardtop.
Hope that helps. Jeff

It cant be that difficult. I have seen people build a frame out in the back of the yard and set up a counter weight and pulley system to just lift the HT enough to pull out. Of course that wa with a reg. TJ but it should not be that difficult.

You can get it all at Harbor Freight (if you have one around you) or any farm supply store. I've got all the pieces to do mine. I bought a hand winch for a boat trailer, 30 feet of cable, and a pulley that was rated for 500 pounds. The smaller pulleys are not rated for overhead lifting. All in all, I'm about $50 into it.

how thick is the cable cause I'm thinking of building one to. i seen them ebay for like 390.00 bucks that will lift the unlimited hard top.but mined you it was electric winch but did u say u left in mid air for like a month. how did you secure it, your not scared it will fall. cause i would like to do that to mine and keep out of the way. but i have an 10 foot ceiling.will that work will i be able to walk under it without getting paranoid of it falling.

Your hard top doesn't weigh any more than like 150 pounds. For overhead lifting you should build in a safety factor of at least 3. So...3x150=450 pounds. Buy a cable that is rated for at least that much, as well as a hook/eyebolt/whatever else you use to lift it up.
I'm a structural engineer, so I can safely assume that your average garage ceiling joists are going to have plenty of capacity to hold the load. Just spread it out between 2 of the joists and you'll be fine.

You know...I'm not positive, but try clicking on the box that says you want to "bookmark this thread". Then all you have to do when you sign on is go to your bookmarks (which is an option on the top of the screen in your profile) and it will go straight to those messages that you want to read about. I don't know if there is an email notification on this board yet...good question for the top dog.
Hope that helps!!!
