I currently have an '05 unlimited with the 15" rims, and 31" tires. Eventually I would like a taller tire, but one that is not wider. It seems that 16" rims have a wider range of tire sizes.
I was just wondering everyones thoughts on this.
What I would really like to move up to are 33x10.5x15, but it seems that there are very few companies making that size
Thanks, Jamie

Rim size can be a very touchy subject, as for 15 vs 16 I just went from the stock 16 Rubicon wheel down to 15 after market rims. I did this because of price and availability. I also think there are more options for the 15 in rim vs the 16 at least what I have been looking for (35-12.50) Another factor is that the 15 will give you more side wall ( this would only be important if you went off road a lot and aired down ) in short the rim size is only an opinion and what every you want to run will work just keep the tire side down

the new 2007 Rubicon will have LT255/75R17 as a standard or 255/70R18 as an option. maybe you can get the rims and tires at your dealership.

17 and 18 inch rims seem a bit ridiculous to me on an off road rig. My wife's Liberty has 17" rims, and those tires were so expensive to replace... They ended up costing more for a set of basically 29 or 30 all terrain tires, then it cost for me to get my 31" Mud Terrains. Going to a bigger tire, like a 33 or 35 on 17" rims will suck.
I think the reason they did this was to accomodate the larger abs brakes.

I took the 16s off my rubi and went to 15s for this reason!

Thanks everyone.
I guess I was thinking that the 16" rims would give me a better chance of getting a tall narrow tire , but I may just spring for the BFG MT in 33x10.5x15

Why did you want a tall narrow tire?

I don't really want the tires out past the fenders, and wher I live, there is no rockcrawling, just mud, and trails, where clearance over stumps is an issue.
I am happy with the 31's fro traction, but would like the axle clearance.
I also prefer the look of the narrower tire
