I notice alot of people doing the trails in Arizona so I was wondering if anyone here is into herpetology? Or maybe just photographed the occasional rattlesnake or gila monster?

We've had 3 in our back yard during the 10 years we've lived here. Here's the last one, a Mojave: I've also run into a few out in the sticks. They certainly just want to be left alone. When you run into one on a hike, it does wonders for your alertness.

Dang Tim!!! You're like the Crocodile Hunter!!! Are those official snake proof gloves?? I wouldn't touch a rattler with a 10-ft pole I find that a .357 works much better

I've wondered that about the gloves. They're fire gloves, made out of thick material. Still, it may have been stupid.
Once I picked that Mojave up, she got real aggressive. I didn't have to wrestle her to the ground, but she was stronger than she appeared. Once we got her in a plastic container, she struck every time we came near. We're lucky Bonnie found her when she did. Folks more educated about snakes have seen the pictures and felt that the snake was ready to pop out some little wigglers. That wouldn't have been good for the dogs.
I don't mind snakes. Spiders creep me out something aweful.

I hate snakes. When I used to live in S.W. US, any time I left the house I had a "snake charmer" strapped on.
good news is, I never had to use it. Bad news is, I never got to use it.

Spiders creep me out something aweful. x2 I had an encounter with a "massive" wolf spider when I was 12 or 13 and that sh!t messed me up for life! I HATE spiders.

x2 x2 for me on the spiders. I also had a bad incident with a wolf spider. Advice: If you get out of the shower and there is a huge one sitting on the wall, don't try to hit it with you towel. It could jump on your neck and run down your back. For some more creepy spider pictures, check out below. Some guys took this on my first trip the Iraq. That is a camel spider on the right. They actually hiss at you and aren't scared of a da*n thing.

Turn on knob for water too come out....Look up for water, WOLF SPIDER on the shower nozzle. Next thing you know, WOLF SPIDER on my chest and, I seriously ran and screamed like a girl from that shower. It took me at least a month and several visits from Orkin or whoever, to make me feel somewhat safe. Messed up.
