Merry Xmas folks...
Hit 60,000 miles on Xmas Eve and my transmission took a dump on me. Towed it to the dealer today... I'm anxious to hear what all is broken. It just all of a sudden started slipping and buzzing/whining. Was putting out a nasty smell too... Ah good times....
Thank goodness for the 7yr/70K mile powertrain warranty. Hopefully I'll get a whole new tranny and be good for at least another 60K miles...

Merry Belated Christmas to all...I hope it was all that you wished it was ********************************* Stolen from newsgroup R.A.M.J.A.W(rec auto makers Jeep & Willys) a few years back

The Winch that Saved Christmas Copyright 1997 by Rich and Greg Lewis
The wind was quite heavy on one Christmas Eve,
Santa traveled by ground, behind schedule, if you believe.
He was cruising through California in his mighty red sleigh,
And said, "If I don't hurry, there will be no Christmas Day."
Blitzen turned around and said, "Santa, you won't fail,
We Reindeer found a short-cut called the Rubicon Trail."
They headed for the trail, but when they got there,
The rocks looked much bigger than they did from the air.
Up hill the reindeer struggled to make the sleigh go,
And getting around those rocks made the progress quite slow.
They tried really hard but there just wasn't a way,
To get axle articulation from an old wooden sleigh.
Where the rocks are quite steep, Santa ran out of luck,
Even with nine reindeer, he finally got stuck.
The Rubicon Trail is no place for a sleigh full of toys,
Santa sighed, "I've failed all those good girls and boys!"
"They'll rise in the morning, leave their rooms and say,
'Under the tree, it is empty, is there NO CHRISTMAS DAY?'"
They couldn't budge the sleigh, no matter how hard they tried,
Santa felt so hopeless he sat down and cried.
Suddenly in the distance came a loud clanking sound,
Like an old wind-up toy that's been too tightly wound.
They saw it come over a boulder with a creep,
A rock crawlin', mud boggin' CJ-5 Jeep.
Its fenders were dented, and its sides were all scratched,
The top had big holes that hadn't been patched.
But its tires were big ones, 35 inch,
And on its front bumper was a shiny new winch.
"If you're taking the Rubicon," the CJ started to say,
"Go with a group and get mud tires for that sleigh."
Santa said, "I'm sorry, I feel like a jerk,"
The old CJ-5 said nothing, it just went to work
The sleigh was unstuck and free in a cinch,
Thanks to that CJ and its shiny new winch.
Santa went on to fulfill Christmas day,
With the old CJ-5 leading the way.
Now many years have passed and the reindeer are older,
They don't fly very well when the weather gets colder.
But Santa's still out there every year without fail,
Fulfilling his promise in the air and on the trail.
On Christmas Eve, if you chance to look in the sky,
You just might see him in that old CJ-5.

Going back to the dealership again on Monday for the THIRD time...
They've replaced the torque converter and the fluid pump, and in all this time have yet to actually look at the internals of the transmission. I'm so freaking worn out over this whole ordeal. Both times I've picked it up, I just about get home and it starts slipping (to the point that it won't move) and making a god-awful whining/grinding sound.
So...hopefully they'll figure it out this time...but I have no faith that they will. They need to just give me a new transmission (HAH!!! Like that will happen), but it's obvious that they do not know how to fix whatever is going wrong with mine.

Don't they test drive the thing after working on it? Or are they afraid they may get stranded? I would insist on a loaner and make the service manager drive your Jeep till it's fixed right. Sounds like they are stringing you along hoping you'll go elsewhere. Good luck !

I hope for your sake that they get it done right. I think that moneypit is right. If they've had it 3 times, ask the service manger to drive it with you. Get it stranded with him in it.

I've told my service rep that I want the service manager and the dealership manager to be present when I show up on Monday morning, so that they can tell me what they're going to do to make things right. 3 times is B.S. (obvious to you and me), but they don't seem to get it.
If I'm not satisfied, I'll be calling Jeep/Chrysler customer service and asking them if this is the "standard treatment".
They have offered me a loaner car... I don't need one as we've got 3 cars, but still at least they did do that much. I talked to my cousin who is a service manager for Toyota. He says that he thinks they are following a protocol of trying to fix the cheap things first, and that this time they really should offer to put in a new tranny...because fixing the existing one will cost them more money in parts/time than just having a new one shipped over and put in. So...we'll see.

Take their loaner car. It's still a hassle to have some one drop you off and pick you up. Plus the more it costs them the more likely they will be to help you. You may consider a Friday appointment. Then take the family on a long road trip for the weekend. Make it hurt. They'll get the message. Also are they a 5 Star Dealership? Most are very protective of that award. Promise to report your bad service experience to the home office and at least contact the area service manager. Get him involved. Be sure to ask your service manager for his name. Let's him know someone above him will be watching. I have done it once and he was the only one who made them fix my problem.

Ended up being the Solenoid Pack (Valve Body). I think she's all fixed, but am now hyper-sensitive to any sort of weird shifting, etc...
All was covered by the 7/70 warranty. Just $100 out of pocket.

I was ready to sell the dang thing. Almost 3 weeks in the shop before all was said and done. I've since come to my senses, and think it's time for a trip to the woods to remind myself why I love my LJ so much.
