Haven't posted here in a year or so. I didn't have any mods on my previous Wr. Unlim. 06, but I did end up trading it last year for the Sahara 07 4 door, and it's a 4x2. I know, it's a town car. Too nice to let the dogs jump around in the seats, and it will probably never see mud deeper than a road puddle. It is nice and roomy enough for a really big dog pen, though, and I love having 4 doors.
Last weekend I swerved onto the grass off a wet road to avoid a guy who fish-tailed in the other lane. He just missed the my driver's side rear bumper. On Monday, a friend and I both backed out of our parking places only minutes apart, and her minivan hit the exact point on my rear bumper that I had saved 2 days earlier.
We thought it might be just a simple job of popping the crunched plastic bumper back out. Wrong. It turns out there are no openings in this thing, it's all one piece, it's foam injected, and the cheapest Mopar duplicate of it I've found is about $239. We don't want to go through the insurance company to do this, and I want to keep the cost down as much as possible. My jeep dealer's service department suggested getting a body shop to make an opening, heat the foam slowly, and pull the plastic bumper back out. Someone else said it can't be done.
If we just order this thing from Quadratec, where I saw it listed as a bumper cover, is it just a simple job of unbolting all those bolts on the actual bumper bar that sits behind it? If so, my husband said he thinks he may be able to do it, saving on the labor charges. I thought anyone who has replaced their rear bumper with an upgrade would know. By the way, my '06 Wr. Unlim. would have been easier to repair. I saw one the other day, and it's rear bumper has end caps you can replace separately from the mid section. They're a whole lot cheaper, too.
