That sucks, sorry to hear that. How did they get in? Any damage? Why take the owners manual? Did it have your name and address in it? If so be careful at home if they now know where you live.

passenger door unlocked (my fault). alarm ground wire connection very poor. (installer cought my piece of mind already, and fixed it).
the little jeep pouch looks a lot like a purse or CD bag, I'm guessing that's why the took it.
In the end, my police streetfinder was under the puch, and it has a big police badge on it. couple that with my dog barking (I only thought he needed to go out), and the dude was scared away before any opportunity to take anything worth while. Later yesterday afternoon when the police sent a car out to write up the report, as I stepped outside I noticed the theif either returned the items, or ditched them for a neighbor to find and return. THEY WERE ON MY STOOP. I'm counting my blessings. a cheap lesson for a jeep owner, right?

Glad you got your stuff back. Next time the dog barks you will let him out right away. He earned a biscuit for that one.

That's aggravating as hell. Glad to hear all ended well. Same thing happened to us a couple of years ago. I walked out to head to work and my the door on my wife's car was open with stuff scattered down the driveway. Nothing of value, but some tag renewal stickers were taken. We got a call from a neighbor that afternoon that she found them along with accompanying paperwork in her yard down the street. Of course, my wife was temporarily stupid enough to leave the car unlocked.

I've had our Jeep rifled through in our driveway during the night. It was sitting out there with the doors off. It gave me a good laugh because the guy took everything of value I had in there: nothing.
The glovebox was open and stuff scattered about on the passenger seat.
The beast sleeps in the garage now, but it was a zero-cost lesson.
Hey, the dogs just barked and ran outside... Maybe I should check it out.

Where are my manners??? I'm happy to hear your losses were small.
Oh, how satisfying it would be to catch the hairbag yourself.

IT happened to me when I had my YJ. I was camping near a lake, and since it was May 24 weekend, there was still a lot of snow, so I had to walk about 100 yards accross the snow to set up camp. during the night they zipped out the rear softop window, and took sunglasses, and the meat and muffins from the cooler.
Luckily they left my tools, and never cut the softop.
They must of had the munchies, and needed sunglasses for the red-eye.
I don't even lock the doors with the softop since I don't want the windows cut
Jamie
P.S. Sorry for the bad luck. Sometimes no matter what precautions you take, they will find a way in.

I find this thread, disturbingly odd. Is there some reason scumbags find rifling a wrangler attractive?
In 10 yrs, I've never (that I know of) had my Miata gone through. But, then I keep nothing in there of value, unless it is in the trunk. I often leave it parked with the top down and never lock the doors. (what would be the point?) There is no alarm.
But then, I stopped locking my car while still in college. After having been broken into twice in the same year, I just stopped locking it and made sure there was never anything of interest in the car.
Never had a problem, since in 25 yrs.
Glad things turned out okay. Would have loved to have been there if you had let out the dog. My dogs are so damned friendly, they might have knocked him down, but only because they wanted to lick his face.
