Soft top maintenance

I just picked up a new soft top for my JK off eBay pretty cheap. I just had a question about maintaining the top. What does everyone recommend as far as which product to use to clean and protect the top and windows?

I don't do much to mine. I will wash it good with a spray foaming vinyl interior cleaner and a soft brush. Just use a mild soap and a soft cloth on the windows. Some people use a wax type crayon on the zippers if they get stiff. Also pick up a storage bag for your windows when you have them out. It's like a bed roll. Quadratec has them. Also I put 1" key rings on all the zippers. Makes it much easier to close them.

Mopar has some stuff for cleaning the soft top and other stuff for cleaning the windows and yet other stuff for maintaining the zippers. Salesman at the dealership convinced me that I had to purchase the stuff to maintain the warranty on the soft top.

I am not so sure about that but the stuff seems to work pretty well and has lasted for over two years. Might check your dealership to see if they have any of it.

I use the mopar window polish - it works quite well and makes it easier to clean later - much like wax.

As for the top itself, I just use the same normal car soap and soft bristle brush on a telescoping handle that I use for the rest of the Jeep.

Thanks for the added responses. Now if I could only put the top down in under 10 minutes folded nice and neat like the brochure! One of these days I'll figure it out.

I have a bag of thumb screws that came with the soft top. How are they used if at all?

This must be a JK thing - the TJ's didn't come with thumb screws...
