Other than some O2 sensor troubles that were fixed under warranty, my Jeep has been trouble free until Thursday. I had a U-joint go bad. It was the front U-joint on the rear drive shaft. It took 2 hours and $28 to replace them both. I guess 107k miles is pretty good for a first failure. Have any of you had your Jeeps break down and what failed?

Holy Moses, you have 107k on your rig? That's impressive. I'm just a smidge over 60k.
You've been busy.

I'm almost to 50,000 miles and have only had to replace the a rear main seal under warranty like some of the others here. But that's it so far. I'd have to say that is pretty good for 107,000 miles. I hope I can go that far or further before anything else goes wrong.

I'm a bit under 24k. Think I need to get out more often.

I'm at about 45k and am running in to some issues. It started over a year ago, but hasn't been this bad before - the engine overheats periodically. Used to be just on real hot days and I cleaned out the radiator and it would improve (went through some liquid clay back in '05). But now it is even on cool days (just noticed it recently after the weather warmed up a bit). It only happens at low speeds (under 35mph) and if I turn the heat on I get nothing but cool air until I am back up at speed again (which has been that way for much of the winter too, but didn't think much of it). Once I get moving the temp goes back to normal.
Luckily I have another vehicle to drive on a daily basis and I will start looking in to it when I have some spare time - which I hope is soon as the days are too nice to not be out with the top down!

Belfast - If you only have problems at slow speeds, you may have air flow problems. If you can't find any problems with your current fan, you may need to upgrade to an electric fan. I'd flush the radiator again for grins before you spend more money though. Good luck.

Now that you mention it Belfast....I just remembered that the heater in my LJ was doing the same thing once in awhile this past winter. I remember approaching a stop sign, or waiting in a line of cars at the local Starbucks and the heater would blow out cooler air. WTF?! I haven't noticed it lately but have a feeling it will happen again. I wonder what the heck is going on?

I haven't been so trouble free. I've had my stereo replaced, 3 u-joints, my softop, the cheap rear shocks the dealer put in with the 2" BB they installed, the passenger seat cover......all under warranty. I have 38K kilometers. I must be rough on the old girl.

I guess I need to quit bragging about how dependable my Jeep has been. I replaced the water pump the other day at 112k miles(179,000km). I highly recommend having a FSM.

I've been lucky in that the parts that went out have been under warranty Water pump Burnt out altenator electrical the only issue really is that I went in to have the front pinion seal to be replaced (it's been leaking a small amount) but the dealership said that they couldn't remove the drive shaft because there was no play. oh well no loss, it would have been covered anyway

This cooling problem won't quit. I replaced my thermostat yesterday. It was running about 10 degrees hot. After a couple of days driving, the steam would deplete the coolant enough that I would overheat. It runs at 210, just like it used to now. I hope that's all. I think the original overheating took out the thermostat.

My issue is/was low coolant. I have a leak somewhere - I hope it is just the radiator, but I don't have any puddles to show for it. Worse case scenario is a bad seal somewhere and coolant getting in to the engine somewhere. An oil change will shed some light on that.
The coolant reservoir is hard to read, especially when its muddy. My over heating issues went away as soon as it was past the "Add" line (go figure). Before there was enough coolant to get pumped through the system at speed (water pump built up enough pressure), but not at low RPMs.

Belfast - I read that the reservoir is used to keep the fluid level up in the rest of the system. As the fluid heats, it expands and forces the excess into the reservoir. As it cools and contracts, it sucks fluid out of the reservoir. Low levels in the reservoir can cause overheating. I think my thermostat was letting my engine run about 10 degrees hot and my fluid was burning off as steam until the level got too low after a couple of days. Every couple of days, I would have to add coolant. The thermostat seems to have fixed it.
Jeepguylj - My battery only lasted 2 years also. Of course it was out of warranty by then. I forgot about that one.

When it rains it pours. I replaced my bank 2 O2 sensors. I got a P0432 fault code again. I'll know in a couple of days if this fixed the problem. Upstream and downstream sensors for bank 2 cost $79 at AutoZone.
