I am about to pull the trigger on a new set of tires. I wanted to get some opinions on size. I have an '05 with the 42RLE and 3.73s. I do not want to regear. This is my daily driver and I will frequently drive long distances to the beach. Should I go up one size to 31s or can I handle 33s? I am only considering these 2 sizes because I have a line on either size in a barter. What would be the smart choice? I think I know that 31s are the way to go. Just looking for reinforcement. I don't want to have to turn OD off on the highway.

Welcome to the board......From looking at your post you don't mwntion a lift of any kind. So 31's would be my pick. I had 32's with 3:73 and hated driving up hills or into strong headwinds. The OD was hunting all the time.

I would lift it accordingly. I will be offroad on occasion, but mainly this is a DD. Would 31s get better or worse gas mileage than the stock 30" GSAs?

I have 33's and 3.73's and drive it daily about 8 miles up and down Southern Pennsylvania hills to work. Yes, my gas mileage sucks (around >=10 miles to a gallon) and yes it stinks driving up hills. Regearing is expensive though and not in my budget yet.
Now the plus side to bigger. Lifted Unlimiteds are awesome looking and preform decently offroading (at least in my typical terrain).

You could add a 1" Body lift for about a hundred bucks and run 31"s real easy. Simplest way to make them fit. Takes about 2hrs to finish. The bigger the tire the worse the mileage.

I have a friend with an '03 Rubicon who swears that his mileage went up when he went from the factory 31s to 33s. I know he has 4.11s, but I thought the same equation may hold true for the 30s to the 31s with 3.73s.
