Well I finally saw an '07 Unlimited on the roads (a perk of living near DC headquarters). It was the first '07 soft-top I had seen as well as the first '07 Unlimited - see a few 2-door hard-tops in the past few months.
I am sure it was a Jeep engineer driving - but he was cool enough to wave! I have to say, the more I see 'em, the more they grow on me - but they still have a way to go before I would get one.

a soft top? I didn't even know that was going to be an option they way they are pimping the hard top.
It is official. You must now carry a camera with you everywhere you go.

Well, I hate to do this but:

I couldn't have snapped one if I wanted to - by the time I realized it was an '07, it was almost right in front of me in the oncoming lane. I will take a trip over to DC headquarters sometime with a camera - they usually have a bunch of test cars sitting around.

I can't wait to see them out there. It seems as of late, we are getting out-numbered by the new Toyota Bubble Car (FJ Cruiser). I see a ton of them coming down I-5 on the car-hauler trucks...at least 2 or 3 each day. This week has been nothing but Silver FJ's.

Well, I hate to do this but: Ask and ye shall receive... This one was going the same way as I was and we were stuck in traffic, so I had time to pull out the camera phone. I was hoping to get some pics of a soft top, but a hard top Rubicon had to do.

Very cool, thanks for the pics!
What were your impressions of size? With a 116" wheelbase, I'm imagining it's huge.

Very cool, thanks for the pics! What were your impressions of size? With a 116" wheelbase, I'm imagining it's huge. It didn't seem that big, but I was never behind it, so I didn't get the best view. I have seen several in the last month or so and would say at a glance you don't realize the bigger size all that much. I would like to see it next to a H3 just to see the comparison...I think they are probably very similar .

Something about it just seems blasphemous. I am going to have to keep an eye out for one here. The fact that "H3" even comes into the discussion makes me cringe just a bit. I'll keep an open mind until then.

Well, thanks for delivering on my request. Not too shabby looking to me.

Ok, I saw the same '07 Rubi today in the same spot on my drive and noticed a few more things. If you look in pic number 2, you can see that there are rocker guards along the sides - this looks like pretty solid steel, a nice addition! It also has a trailer hitch that has to be factory as only the hitch and chain loops sit just below the bumper - very low profile (you can barely see it in the last pic). Lastly the tires are BFG Mud-Terrains - I think this is stock
I have to say they took a lot of lessons-learned from previous generations and made an impressive package. The look is slowly growing on me too - I would consider it when my '05 becomes a strictly trail rig in a few years.

Looks like they moved the tail lights to the corners. I wondered when Jeep would have to do that. There's some crazy dot regulation about corner markers and I was wondering how jeep got away with not putting them on the corners. Also, notice how the hard top comes down sharply behind the rear door. I don't think that would look very good topless... but I may live to eat my words. THANKS FOR THE PICS!
