Took a vacation day on Friday with the bad weather predicted for central PA, drove Thursday night to our cabin near Raystown (Huntingdon) for the weekend. Friday at the cabin the weather was pretty crappy, mostly sleet with some freezing rain. Got about an inch of sleet/ice. I put some bird seed out in the feeder on the deck, and on the railing. I have a bird call, so after i put the seed out I called, got some cardinals to come in. At one point, I had 6 or 7 pairs of cardinals lined up on the railing (along with the usual suspects: titmouse, chickadee and nuthatch) I missed the pic with all the cardinals lined up in a row, but did get a few with blue jays for contrast A while later, a couple deer came in and ate the seeds/cracked corn that the birds had kicked out of the feeder. Thought some of you might enjoy the pics

Looks great! We have a place in Galena Illinois. I put out a big bird feeder and got alot of the pretty songbirds Etc. But after about 2 months the blackbirds and crows ran them off so I quit feeding them. Hope it doesn't happen to you.

During past summers, I've had local black bear rip the feeder down... Now with the feeder off the deck, the bear haven't bothered it. But the squirrels come snooping around when they hear the birds making a commotion over the seed... then they clean out the feeder pretty quick trying to get the sunflower seeds, and the rest falls to the ground. No biggie, the little birds find it anyway. Haven't had any problem with crows or starlings at the cabin, but certainly have at home... I've run off the blackbirds many times.

Thanks, I sure do miss the Cardinals & Blue jays from back east. I see a few deer when I make it to the mountains, but out here in the desert I see a lot of coyotes and big jack rabbits and ravens, hawks and owls (big & small). We recently added 2 Chihuahua's to the pet list. One day as usual, we let'em out in the back yard and brought them back in. A few moments later I looked out and saw a huge hawk on the fence waiting for them to come back out. Missed the picture, but the wifey is sure paranoid about the rat dogs going out now.

Thats sweet lynn, they have beautiful colors. We have a lot of possums near my house and we do get hawks that fly by.
