Now I'm no "Expert" but I will try, and if someone can correct me if I'm wrong but... Chokes-Are a screwed-in insert that regulates the spread of the BB's. Example a Full, Modified, turkey... A turkey is more of a "together" or close spread. Slugs- Instead of BB's, you get a "Slug", A big azz bullet. Deer Killer. Shell Sizes- I have the same one you bought, (835, great gun), you can shoot 2-3/4", 3" and 3-1/2" long shells. Also, you can buy many different sizes of shot, like 8-10-12 then 00, BB. Bigger the number, the smaller the BB's, but you get more bb's. BB is the biggest size you can get. There ya go..

Thanks JJ. So right now I have a turkey choke, from what the dealer explained. Do I need a specific choke for a slug when going for deer, or a choke for pheasant, ect. If so, I'd say I need a lot of chokes. Maybe this is why you can purchase different barrels??? ~JN

I'm not really to sure on slugs as I have never fired them out of my shotgun. I have on my friends though, but cannot tell you about the choke on that. I wouldn't think you would need a choke, maybe a specific "Slug" barrel because maybe it has to be rifled like a regular rife is.
To change the choke, just unscrew it, and change it out.

Well, I'm all set up. Got the mossberg 835, have different chokes, bought another barrel, rifled and the sabot slugs to go with. I now topped it off with a scope. I feel sorry for the deer, but it's food on my table. Having a blast with pheasant right now...good eatin'!~JN
