It's D44s front and rear on the Rubicon, otherwise only the rear is the D44 (with a D30 up front).
I believe the OEM gear ratio on the D44 is 4.88, 30 spline.

You're right: 3.73:1, higher on the Rubicon.

The blue ones have 3.73 gears.
OK, all the non-Rubi's have 3.73 gears, but that doesn't negate my first statement.

You have a Dana 44 axle in the rear and a Dana 30 axle up front - correct me if I'm wrong but that just refers to the size of the axles themselves - you have 3.73 gears in each axle pumpkin.

huskerjoe: ya i was getting them mixed up. i don't know to much when comes to thinks like that so i have Dana 30 axle up front, Dana 44 in the rear, and my gears are 3.73 front and back. what does the Rubicon have. and what's the difference with 30,44, and what does this mean Dana 44, the thickness of the axle and what about the gears,i hear some people on this site saying they put 4.88 gears.what the benefit with that besides 3.73 gears

***Rubicon's run Dana 44 front and rear w/ 4.10 gears.
***The Dana 30 has a 27 spline count and the Dana 44 has 30 spline count (higher spline count stronger axle shaft). Dana 44's also have bigger ring gear than 30's...stronger, but a High Pinion reverse rotation Dana 30 is comparable. The down side, Rubicon Dana 44's utilize Dana 30 knuckles and the axle tubes are thinner compared to older 44's (don't have the exact details).
***Swapping gears comes in play when you run bigger tires. To regain power and some fuel ecomony you swap to a lower gear (i.e. 4.88' to run 35"-37" tires).
Did this help or make it worse?

loud and clear. i think I'm starting to understand now. just wanted to know what the difference was. thank for the info........... so if i run bigger tires like 35 or 37's. I'll have to change to different gears. do i have to change the speedo gear also.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a simple re-calibration done by the dealer will fix the speedo. It's electronic now.
I had 35's w/ 4.56's and my speedo read 3-5 mph slow (I adjusted me driving)...now I have 37's and my speedo is pretty much dead on now.

I believe this is only true for the Rock-Track t-case in the Rubicon. I know that I had to replace a gear in my 2004 Unlimited, which has the same t-case as all the LJ's that are not Rubi's.
