For those of you in the Northern Virginia/West Virginia/Maryland/PA area - or anyone passing through on the weekend of July 21-23 there is going to be a huge Civill War re-enactment in Middletown Virginia at the Cedar Creek Battlefield. This is the first year they are going to be re-enacting the First Battle of Manassas at this site and it looks like its going to be a lot of fun. I've heard over 6000 re-enactors have registered {3000 in the past week alone} - estimates put it as high as 12,000 participants will register by opening day. That many people firing guns, shooting cannons, leading cavalry charges etc. has to be pretty cool to see. Our normal re-enactments that are held every year in October usually bring about 3500 re-enactors, I can't image what nearly 4 times as many is going to be like!!! Here is a link to some basic information: www.cedarcreekbattlefield.org/

I can say from personal experiances that's a great event, I did it a few times when I was living on the east coast. 12k expected? should be decent then...as I recall I think 135th gettysburg was still the largest with 20k plus, but 12k is still a dam good turn out.

The coolest thing about Cedar Creek is its one of the only {if not the only} ones that is allowed to happen on the actual battlefield itself. Since the one coming up in July is the First Manassas re-enactment technically its not occuring on the same place, but it still is a real Civil War battlefield!!

very true, new market occasionaly allows use of the orig. feild..but your right cedar creek is one of 2 that routinely allow use.
