I'm in the market for an impact wrench, and some questions come to mind:
Is there a standout brand, in the bang-for-buck category?
What is the minimum useful torque, mainly for doing Jeep work?
Can I use my regular socket set, or do I have to buy the black sockets?
Please feel free to answer any other questions I should have asked.

I have 2 impacts. Just because I lost my original for so long I didn't think I'd ever see it again. It was a no name and still works fine. I bought a Craftsman with 350LBS torque and it does just fine. I have seen 500LBs as well but don't think it's that important. I use the black sockets when possible but they do not fit into my Cast wheels so I just use a regular socket there. I have only broken a regular socket 1 time in my life. The impact sockets are much thicker.
On the same vain. I have heard that there are battery powered impact wrenches. Does anyone know anything about these. They would be great on the trail.

The battery powered ones are pretty slick. They run off of an 18V (or other voltage depending on brand) battery. They work really well. Some of the contractors I've worked with use them for some of the concrete anchors I specify. I think they only go to like 120 or so ft-lbs, but that is plenty.
