Does anyone know at what speed jake brakes on trucks need to be used - its a level grade 30mph speed limit area......

fogive me if I'm wrong, but I think the Jake Brake thing isn't nessesary anywhere really. Its something truckers do, but they can not do it if they choose, like at night, I think they will get in trouble.

Thats a good point - I just live near a corner where trucks enter our town, they are constantly jake braking even though they are only going about 30 - annoys the heck out of me.

Jake brakes are used on diesel trucks to help them decelerate. It makes the motor hit on everyother cylinder building back pressure. They are not needed on flat ground really but they use them when the speed limit changes instead of just lightly appling the brakes.

Very true, well that and I used to do it just to set off car alarms that were WAAAAY too sensitive in my district..god I loved that thing...hehe
