I like to hear from the former or in some cases current short wheel base owners. What made you pull the trigger and buy the Unlimited.

I had a son who requires me to bring alot more stuff whenever we want to go somewhere! So I guess my answer would be the extra needed space! Here is my old SWB.

I had a 1989 yj with the carbureted 4.2L. I mostly bought the new one to avoid mechanical repairs, but with 2 dogs and a 75 km commute everyday, the LWB just seemed right

The extra storage, improved ride, sunrider top, longer driveshaft, and a little extra legroom all for $1k more then a SWB Rubi....that made me go with the LWB Rubicon. But the other big factor that made me decide not just on an Unlimited, but the Unlimited Rubicon was the fact that they are only being made for 2 yrs. They will become a collectors Jeep in 10-15yrs. and I'll have a much more rare Jeep then just a regular TJ or SWB Rubicon. I'm very happy with my decision and definately think it is worth the extra $$ to go for the LWB.

I gave up my last TJ in 2001 and was kicking myself ever since. But I knew that it just wasn't practical enough. As soon as the Unlimiteds came out, I had no more excuses.
My biggest complaint for my previous SWB was the lack of storage. I have two big dogs and couldn't imagine any way to fit them in less space than I have now (I run w/out the seat).
The better ride and longer drive shaft are icing on the cake for me.

I owned a silver '00 sport...the one thing I thought it was missing was a TRUNK which I need for fishing gear, groceries, etc. Now I have one. Also the smoother ride without being a wimpy ride due to the longer WB. Before I was planning on getting seat covers for my swb...I hated the southwest look...but the H package interior does not need covering...I like the 2-tone gray.

My old 2000 TJ was traded in for the Rubi Unlimited.
I went this route because I am looking at starting a family and, this seemed like a more logical choice.
Storage area was a real selling point, along with the extra WB.
I loved my swb TJ but, it just wasn't a practical Daily Driver anymore, and I like to drive my Jeep daily. So, I traded in the trail rig, and got the LJ. The build-up plans are going to definitely cater more toward a street friendly Jeep which can and will handle the trails I do, while doubling as a grocery getting, kid friendly, dog carrying, etc.

More storage , better towing manners, smoother ride on the streets, 4 wheel disc brakes, and its not a handful to drive at 80 mph

I had an '01 TJ. I didn't start out right with it. 3.07's, d35. I put a locker on it, rocker skids, 2"BB and 31's. I could put that thing just about anywhere I wanted with just that.(Of course nothing too wild). With all that I wanted to add on to the swb, I could just buy a rubicon for very close to the same price. Then we found out that they were doing away with the I6 for the V6. That gave us the final shove. We went to get the rubicon swb but got to thinking that it was silly to sacrifice the extra storage for a little better offroadibility. We only go offroad a few times a year so we got the unlimited rubi.
