i use my jeep (which i've only had since april) to deliver news papers. until now i've had a hard time convincing my mom that its better to use my jeep then her mini van. well yesterday (the day after the hurricane) i was out on the route in one of the trailer parks i deliver, when i rounded a corner and hit about 8 inches of standing water... well i slowly trudged through it and to my surprise saw some of my customers out and waiting for the paper. (it was like 3am) and they had the nerve to yell at me about driving through the water and splashing their cars (i was not going faster then 10mph) and yeah....... well anyways if i would have had my moms van i doubt it would have made it. im glad i got my jeep it makes me feel invincable

if you would have gotten pictures - jeep would probably use them to sell wranglers. that's too funny. Although I doubt 8in. of standing water would have blasted the minivan, the jeep's taller tires really help out. any spots deep enough to warrant a diff. fluid change?

i have no idea.... all i know is if i were to have to change it now i'd have to change it every night because that same area on my route is still flooded (its right next to a lake). i would have taken pictures but its during the night and i really didnt feel like stepping out of the jeep to take a memory pic

yea the vents are up high, but if you are worried about it, you're better off changing it. sounds like you're confident it wasn't that high, so you're probably fine

The vent for the rear diff is up near the gas filler neck! Haven't traced the front but its prolly up there too.
As for the paper route...Next time pitch their papers in the puddle! Being a trailer park in a hurricane I'm surprised there were people still there!

I remember that my YJ front diff vent was almost the height of the top of the engine. Maybe a little will leak in around the connection, but I have never had a problem in the yj, even in water up to the fenders. I did check the diff's regularily, but haven't checked my unlimited yet.

8" of water is not going to bother your diffs, or anything else for that matter. You'd have to go in real deep, or get stuck and sit a long time, for any water to get in there. Just try to avoid the high speed splashdown action. Yeah, the water flying around looks really cool, but it will force feed the water into every vent, electrical connection and filter that you have. Probably won't do anything right away, but down the road a few weeks or months, things will just start going to hell on you.
