So I'm building a remote cabin. Another couple friend of ours is in on it with us. The location is only accessible in a 4x4, and most people (not regular wheelers) would get a mile or so in the road and turn around.
We acquired a 24'x24' building in the spring for free. Siding, composting toilet, the works. IT had been vandalized, so new windows are needed, but all other materials are sound.
We dismantled the building, and have been towing all the materials in to our camp with our Jeeps and trailers (my friend has a SWB Rubicon, but we won't hold that against him). We are going to reassemble the cabin at the top of the mountain.
Anyway, I thought it might be something you guys and girls would like to follow.
The land is located about 10km (6 miles) from the highway up a mountain road that climbs our local ski resort. the total trip from the bottom of the mountain takes about 90 mins. We can do it in 45 minutes without the trailers.
The great part about it is that the road leaves from the parking lot of a gas station and coffee shop (Tim Hortons), so we can fill our tires with the station compressor when we get down off the mountain.
The land is on a small pond. Actually we don't "officially" have the land yet, we are waiting on government approval for the lease (you can lease land from the crown for about $100/year). There is little privately owned land in Newfoundland.
I will add updates as the project progresses.
Here are a few pictures of the Jeeps loaded with roof trusses and so on.
The valley in the distance is where the roadleads.
