I was planning on draining the front and rear axle fluid this weekend, just hit 30K. My question is, the rear 44 uses the same axle fluid as the front, but requires an additive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this additive a defoamer? I went to advanced auto today, and they could not help me with this. What is the additive?? Manual says to put it in, but doesn't say what it is. ~JN

The additive is for the limited slip "Trac-loc". Check the fluid you are putting in, most synthetic gear oils already have the additive in them. The bottle will probably say something like "For use in limited slip differentials". If this is the case you need to add 4 more ounces of the gear oil since you are not using the separate additive.
