So this morning I get a loud and nasty "buzz" sound as I'm driving to work. I turn down the radio to figure out where it was coming from and the noise goes away. I was able to isolate the sound to be coming from the front speakers, but it sounds like it is coming from the center of the dash...
My questions: Is there a center speaker in the dash (I don't think so).
Has anyone replaced the 2 speakers on the sides of the dash? What did you use (brand)? And does a standard 4x6 mount up...which it looks like it does from my quick search online. I've got to buy speakers today at lunch and get this fixed or I'll go crazy!!!! No music on a 40 minute commute is no fun.

I replaced my whole system except the center channel. I put some Infinity speakers in the dash and rear pods. The fronts have small tweeters in them as well. The stock ones are real cheap, well worth the upgrade. I used an Alpine head unit. I got it all at Circuit City, right off the shelf stuff.

The "center channel" Are you referring to the sub in the console? Or is there a speaker in the center of the dash? When you replaced yours, did you find one that would just bolt up, or did you have to get adapter plates and mount up some 5 1/4" round speakers? I've seen that as the common thing to do on the other Jeep Forums.

Yes, sorry I meant the Sub in the console I left stock. Don't remember about the adapters. I had them install it. They were running a sale with free install, so I let them do it. You will notice a big differance with a speaker upgrade. Especially when the top and windows are off and you need extra volume.

I have replaced every speaker (including sub) and have to say it is well worth it. The stock speakers are basically paper - they wear out (as you are seeing now). I replaced the front and rear speakers with Infinity from Crutchfield (I think I replaced all 4 for under $200, but it has been a while, so my memory is a little fuzzy). The sub I replaced with a 10" Sony Xplode crammed in to the center console with a custom made sub box I made.
Long story short - the front speakers are easy to replace - take the cover off and the speaker is right behind it. There is no center speaker - just 2 front and 2 on the rollbar.

Well... They ended up not being blown. Someone from work had done me a "favor" and jammed a business card down into the vents for the cover. The card was vibrating against the speaker...that's where my noise came from... I think payback is going to be sweet But, now that I've seen how cheesy the stock speakers are, I think I'm going to replace them and get some better sound. I think just changing the fronts will work wonders, but I may change the ones in the sound bar too if I notice a really big improvement.

For payback, may I suggest a zip tie on his drive shaft. I hear there is a template floating around that will allow you to upsize your front speakers. I'll try to find info on it.

i just replaced my dash and bar speakers last week and installed a ipod direct hookup too ($250 for everything). Took about 2 hours to install everything. I ordered all the stuff from crutchfield.com and they include all of the hookups and adapter plates that you will need and even install instructions specific to your vehicle. i saw the kicker speakers on Quadratec for close to $100 per pair. Crutchfield had the same ones for half the price. They sound alot better but now the factory sub just cant keep up. So i ordered this bad boy (kicker compVT 10") and im hoping with its small dimensions that it will fit inconspicuously under the rear seat. I've measured it out and i think it will be REALLY close. Cross your fingers. I'll keep yall posted if it fits. www.crutchfield.com/S-GOF7LGvrk7l/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=510&I=206TCVT102.

Revenge? Now I would never suggest it, but I have "heard" that you go down to your local hunting store (Cabella's/Gander Mountain etc) and pick up a bottle of Deer in Heat scent. Just a few drops on the air intake cowl right in front of the windshield will leave your "friend" with a memorable ride for weeks....

Deer In Heat Scent? I worked in a Sporting Goods Dept. many years ago. I dropped a bottle as I was restocking them. Some of my co-workers thought it was really funny that I had to clean it up so I threw the broken bottle and all the paper towels in the warehouse where some of these guys worked. It stunk up the entire warehouse. I can just imagine what it will do to someones vehicle.

About the same thing... I soaked a q-tip in skunk scent and wiped it on his heater vents. Smelled really bad for a couple days. He kept complaining that he thought he must have ran over a skunk.

We had a friend of ours dress up like a crazy hooker and wait at our friends car once. She kept yelling out his name and saying he owed her money. Someone went in and called him and he ended up giving her $20 dollars just to shut up. Others thought he was really paying her. We told him later on that night what we had done and he didn't talk to us for a long - long time. I know I'm getting off track with my story but we got our revenge.
