I originally was thinking I'd put a Detroit in the rear and a True Trac up front, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of going with an ARB in the rear with a True Trac (or ARB if funds permit) up front. No matter which way I go, it'll be a selectable locker in the rear. I'll be taking that leap this Winter as well as adding 4.56 gears.

I have ARB's front and rear. I didn't want any on road issues that some of the others have. So I ponied up the bucks and did the ARB's. Been real happy. No issues at all. Just be sure you have a qualified shop do them unless you are able to do it yourself. You may also look at the OX locker. I believe it is cable operated thus leaving your on road perfomance same as stock. Good luck!

I'm also running ARB's front and rear, and really love them. They lock and disengage as expected, and quite frankly, feel like cheating. Most of the time, I run without the front axle locked, except on the really steep stuff. Its just an effort to keep the stress off the axle. Also, what that beast is locked up front, the turning radius feels like an aircraft carrier.
If you can spring for the ARB's, its hard to imagine you being disappointed.

Well I'm saving up for ARB's F & R and Gears.
As of right now, I'm running a Lock Rite in the front and just the stock LSD in the rear. Little bit of clicking when turning but I thought it would be worse. Offroad, it's great, when I'm on the gas it locks up, when I let off or turn, it unlocks.
My last Jeep had ARB's and I loved them. I'm having a guy who is in our jeep club install my gears and lockers. He did his own and he used to work at an offroad shop that did everything. It's crazy, he has all of the tools, even a hydraulic press!
And the best part is he'll do it for all the Pizza and beer he wants over that weekend.
Like what has been said before, if you can afford the ARB's, do it!

Id opt for an electric or the cable shifted locker. Ive HEARD good and bad on the ARB's. Typically no problems if installed by a professional shop who does a good job, however on the other hand I hear that if the job is at all sloppy you will have a lot of issues. My personal preference would be to go for the electric or cable shift. On the other hand, you buy ARB's you need an air source that gives you an exscuse to buy a nice air pump which lets you fill up your tires also.
Good luck!

Air hoses can rupture, cables can go out of adjustment or snap, electronics can short out. Every selectable locker has a means to fail. I've heard equal amounts of complaints between ARB hose or compressor issues and OX cables being out of adjustment.
ARB's are certainly the most expensive. However, if you do enough research, especially in hardcore circles, ARB's tend to be found more often than anything else. And if you really want bulletproof, you can have heavy duty air lines installed.
I also find it noteworthy that the Rubicon lockers are air lockers. The engineers at Jeep appear to have a preference.

In my old TJ, I ran a Detroit Locker in the rear & a Loc-Rite up front in my D30. This was a great set-up for off-roading. The Loc-Rite pulled like a mutha & when I was done wheeling, I'd just unlock my hubs, disengage 4LO and be on my way.....BUT, this is where the Detroit became much more noticeable. You know it's back there & you just have to drive accordingly. (especially in the winter) My favorite part about the Detroit was when it would "unload" in a parking lot as I would pull in or be pulling out, & it would sound like a shotgun went off! People would literally JUMP when that would happen. If I knew then, what I know now, I would save my $$$ & get something that is selectable & it would probably be ARB's.

I'm running ARB's front and rear with 4:56 gears with 33s and couldn't be happier. Like someone said if I use them I generally have the rear engaged and the front for the rough stuff but they are worth the $$$.

I just got the Powertrax No-Slip's put in friday. The first few miles there was some noise, just the locker getting broken in... Bring on the tire stacking:

Stock air lockers, busted the rear twice, now I have a front diff in the rear, open-open now. We'll see how it holds up on the Hammers, that's where I busted the first two.
