I was reading through the Quadratec Catalog over the weekend looking at various lifts { I like to dream!!!} - the question I have is - What is Pinion Angle? I saw a few lifts that said the give you shims or something that adjust the pinion angle - just wondered what in the world that is......

Pinion angle is the angle of the driveshaft in reference to the transfer case and the axles. If the angle is too great there will be binding at the u-joints.

in my experiance, and dont take it as gospel, but i believe the shems in question are for wrangler with leaf springs. I had to use them on my yj that had 6" suspension lift. i dont see a way you could use them with coils.

thanks guys, I was kind of thinking that they must tilt the axle in some way, but I couldn't figure out how when you have no leaf spring stacks.

with coils , the control arms are adjustable , so you can set your pinion angle . I'll try to find a pic to show what I'm talking about

Have a look at Tom Woods website; www.4xshaft.com/Start with Geometry 101. When I put 32's and a teraflex S3T lift on my unlimited, my drive shaft angle went from about 7 degrees to a little over eleven degrees. As I recall, Tom Woods site suggests that you can get into binding, vibes and much shorter u-joint life when you start to push 15 degrees. I did not use the transfer case drop kit.
