Has anyone ever removed their windshield hinges? We're wondering if there are additional bolts beneath the windshield hinges, and if they'll have to be removed also in order to replace the hinges. If you've ever done this to any jeep you have, I would think it would be the same. Is this a job that takes forever or is better done by a shop? (Yes, this is for the chrome hinges I ordered. No rush. They're not even in stock right now at Quadratec, so they're back ordered.)

I read somewhere (here or on JU) that you should use a soldering iron to heat the bolts up prior to removing them (makes them come out a lot easier!)...but from what I've seen, it's just the ones that are visible..

Thanks! I saw that, too. Funny timing! I just posted on the same day in a different subject area. Quadratec has the windshield hinge job labeled as "easy", so maybe by using the soldering iron, that will make it even easier. I just have to wait for the hinges to get here.

I got part of my order in from Quadratec today, just the door hinges and brackets. I called Customer Service and found out the windshield hinges wouldn't be available until July, so I canceled that order. I started to order from JC Whitney, but remembered how high their shipping was and how long it took (11 days) the last time I ordered from them, so I scrapped that. I then took the door hinges out to look at them by the jeep again and decided to blow the whole project off. Too much money for too much work and too much chrome. I'm a little disappointed about the whole thing, but maybe it's better it turned out this way. So that's it, no more chrome other than the grill cover. I'll probably be a lot happier in the end. I'll just wait and someday spend the money on a more worthwhile project. We have to get a new bumper for the truck, anyway, so it was bad timing to start with.

Not a bad idea. It would be worse if you put all that chrome on and them didn't like it. Take the $$$$$$ you just saved and buy something else for the Jeep. God knows there is plenty to buy!

That's for sure! I don't remember buying so many extras, or having so many choices of extras, since we last had a boat!
For now I'm consoling myself with Who cds. I went out and got a handful of cds of stuff I listened to when I was a teenager. Less money and more fun, especially in the jeep!

If the soldering Iron trick doesn't work (i'm going to try it when I get my new mirrors), I know that an impact driver will break the loctite loose on the bolts (my plan B).
That's how I got the bolts out of my old YJ hinge.

My bolts came out without any problems with just a socket wrench.

I bought a 2.5 OME HD with corresponding shocks, JKS track bars, JKS disconnects, and slighly longer bumpstops to accomodate 265/75/16 (32 inch) tires. All of the parts will be here in 2 weeks. I'll take before and afters.
