Maybe a little bit... Jeeps will never be an economical vehicle as far as gas mileage goes... What you also give up is the D44 rear end, rear disk brakes, you get smaller tires, different gearing, etc.... Lots of folks have the SE Wranglers and are happy with them, but I'd say if you were to step down to a short-wheelbase, that you'd at least want the sport model or "X" model. Get one with a D44 rear end if you can... I can see where this question is going...you've got 15K trade-in on your Unlimited, and are thinking it would be better get a new vehicle that you can get for the 15K range??? If you owe more than 15 grand on your Unlimited...keep it, or you'll be totally upside down in debt on that "cheaper" rig....

x2. the gain in mileage is not worth the loss of power

From what I understand, you can expect 2-3 mpg better with the 4 cylinder. IMO, not worth it. A little lighter on the right foot gives you almost that much.

yeah, thats what I was thinking Chad. I was thinking about getting a brand new 4cyl for around 15k. Thought the gas savings would be a little more than 2-3 mpg. If it were 10 more miles per gallon it would be worth it. These 4.0's are powerful engines. Great engines as well. I was just trying to think economics but your right, I would be totally upside down on a cheaper vehicle. Ill just hold it and hope they fix it like new. Rich
