I'm shopping for a lift kit (3 - 4 inch) and am curious if anyone has a favorite brand and why? I guess I should say that most of my driving is on pavement, however, I do take it on dirt/muddy roads once in awhile, but nothing like the Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Maybe one of these days! I also drive it through snow in the winter which sometimes can get pretty deep as well as some hills when playing in the central Idaho mountains. Some of these kits are expensive like Rubicon Express! I assume it is that some kits are made extra strong for rugged off road driving. Any comments on Skyjacker, Tuff Country, Rancho, Tera Flex etc.? The key is that most of my driving will be on pavement, which is probably like most of us if we use it as a family vehicle. If anything, it will look aggressive! Thanks,
Ridge

I would take a look at www.rustysoffroad.com Their springs are made by the same folks that make Rubicon Express springs (along with a lot of the other companies). I'm looking pretty hard at their lifts for when I decide to go bigger than the 2" I already have. They have a good reputation and have very good customer support. Most people go with Rubicon Express just because that's what everyone else is running. For the occasional offroader, I really don't think that the brands matter so much. Do some research on other brands, compare the parts you get with each kit and then decide what you want to do. How big of tires do you plan on running?

I'm planning on buy the Dick Cepek Fun Country II's (33x12.50 - 15). I'll check out Rusty's Off Road and a few more places for the lift kit. Thanks Chad.

a guy in my club has a RE 3.5 and loves is with 33's. I went with a LA kit myself, but it might be a bit much for you. If I went SA, I would have went RE.

Warning: Newbie question I myself am looking at 2-2.5 inches of lift. I've seen the RE BB, I've seen the Rusty BB Version...and then I've seen Rusty's Coil replacement (instead of the spacer) and the OME style... My question: Which is the better way to go? BB with spacers or new coils. Assuming they appear to be about the same ride height adjustment, so I just dunno...thus I ask... BTW, although price is always a factor, I prefer to go the better method up front. And I dont plan on running more than 31 or 32's on mine anytime soon...(probably BFG 31's)... 2005 Unlimited.... Thanks in advance!

Well...I went cheap and got the RE 2" BB, and BFG 31" Mud Terrains. Since then I've added a winch up front and my front end sagged about 1/2". The Unlimited already has a bit of a rake to it from front to rear of about 1.5 to 2 inches. So...my next step will be to remove the front springs and BB and put in some 3" coils from Rustys. I really think you are better off going with coils whether they be 2", 2.5", or 3" to start. Then when you add a winch or heavy accessories you can just add a small spacer to the front springs and still be okay. Spending a little more the first time is better than buying a "basic" 2" lift twice... I think the Unlimited needs a 3" lift in front and 2" lift in back, and then it would look just about right. It will sit nice and even (maybe 3/4" to 1" higher in back). With my 2" lift and 31's I get plenty of articulation and full tuck into the fenders with no rubbing (and yes, I am using the extended bumpstops, but I think I'll shave them down about another 3/4"...because there is room).

Hate to do it but I'll probably end up making payments for a kit and tires. Anyone have a Les Scwaab tire center near them? They install Tuff Country lift kits in all sizes, etc. I can also get my Dick Cepek tires from them. I'd like to do the installation myself but it's a time thing and a busy schedule that keeps me from doing that.

Ok, I have a question about two of my posts on this topic that I started. In two of my posts I have referred to Cepek tires and the word "dohicky" appears before the word Cepek. In both posts I didn't type that word. What the heck? The tires are named after the guy who developed them years ago. Each time I type the first name (rhymes with Rick but begins with a D) and then the last name Cepek, the first name gets replaced by "dohicky." Anyone knowwhat the heck is going on?

The forum software automatically filters out some key "bad" words. The filter can be turned on or off, but for the sake of keeping a family friendly message board it's just a good idea to leave the filter turned on...this keeps it safe for kids to read, and also keeps it safe for people to log into when at work. I'm sure there will a few instances, like above, where it will seem a little "dumb", but...we'll all learn to deal with it. For cases like this...just substitute the "i" with a "!" and it works out okay.
D!ck Cepek (just to show you that it works)

Thanks Chad, that makes sense. I've never seen anything like it before, but I guess it isn't a big deal as long as your name isn't D!ck.
