Got my 2005 Unlimited back in April. Opted not to get the Rubicon version because my wife didn't like the ride as well as the regular Unlimited. This means I have no lockers! The Dana 44 with Trac-lok in the rear should be OK, but I would like to upgrade the Dana 30 in the front. Any suggestions? is it even needed? Thanks! Jon

What are you planning to do with it? I'm no expert, but I still have the stock 30 on my Scrambler. The only change I've made was to upgrade the gears, and I run 33" Mud Terrains. I've run it that way since 1988, I pound the snot out of it, and so far I've broken exactly one (1) hub. Obviously, there are differences between the CJ and the Wrangler application, but I would assume that the basic unit, and the strength of that unit, are still the same.

A Dana 30 is good stock up to 35's. Any bigger than that and you'll want alloy shafts at the least or maybe even a Super30(30 spline shafts and and ARB). If you want to lock it I would recommend a lockright or aussie. Either can be had for around $200 and are invisible on the road when in 2wd. If you choose to lock it I wouldn't go bigger than 33's without some alloy shafts.

I do some trail riding in West Virginia and am going to check out a new off road park in Kentucky. Nothing too serious though, like someone else said on this board I haven't got it paid off yet! I was thinking of upgrading for traction reasons. For mud or hills, I figure its better to have four legs than three. I have looked at the lockright and have had that one suggested before. Just wondering how hard it is to install? Thanks for the info guys! Jon

It all depends on how mechanically inclined you are. I had never done anything like that before but was able to do it myself in a saturday afternoon, taking my sweet all time and reading everything twice before doing it. I commute 80 miles a day with 33" swampers and have no ill side effects. I think it's some of the best money you can spend....

I'm thinking about installing a powertrax no-slip in the front. I've read good reviews about them. Has anyone had any experience with them? To what extent would it void my factory warranty? from what I gather, it works like the lock-right but is a newer design.
