I thought it was quite funny last night while doing some wheelin' in the dark through the forest by my place (shhh), I found two bucks just sittin around. I got maybe 3 feet from them until they took off. my camera took too long to shoot the photo of them so close, but I got a pic. Still though, I'm new to jeeps and I just love the ability to see nature in them. You guys in northern IL know any decent legal trails to take a stock LJ on for some decent views and/or a picnic?

Nice photo!!!!....I just got back from camping in Custer State Park, SD and Yellowstone, WY myself. And although I have no pictures of the 'event', I do have picture proof of the aftermath...that being sleeping, in the snow, in a tent, ten feet from.... a buffalo....
Nothing like your wife waking you up at 4 am going...'Somethings out there' and then you get out of the tent, shine your flashlight around and see a large pair of horns and two beedy eyes looking back at you...I quickly got back in the tent and wished I hadn't seen that. (like the tent would save me...LOLOLOL). We saw black bear, elk, antelope, moose, a grey wolf, an eagle, and Mucho Bison. All wild and loose.
But truely, if you like nature, I must say that I give a thumbs up to both Custer and Yellowstone...however, Yellowstone was freezing while I was there (15 degrees below normal and snow in September!!!!) but the scenery was gorgeous... I was planning on Grand teton but too many nights of cold in a tent and I cut my trip a bit short. But 9 days of camping was enough...
Not too far from Northern Il. I drove it from Ohio, two days out and three days back...on top of the 9 days camping...
