i was pleasantly surprised as well - just me and the dog i got close to 22mpg heading up 65 in indiana for 200 miles. I seriously think it had to do with a few things 1. top was on tightly and rain gutters were snapped in 2. cruise was on at around 75 (clutch in trans engaged, so no torque converter to suck hp.) 3. I switched to mobile1 oil and filter, put a high flow air filter on 4. The air down in the country is so much cleaner than in Chicago, I can't imagine it NOT having an effect. 5. Maybe I was traveling "with" the wind.
either way, I was happy.

I'm jealous,
How much mileage do you have on your LJ's? So far the best out of mine was 16.8 all highway when I first bought it (Drove it home from Ohio to MD).
Currently, I drive 90% city and 10% Highway and my best was 16.5 mpg but varies from a low of 14.5 mpg. It seems to be getting better slowly.
I only have 2,900 miles on my jeep and I have heard it gets better with a little more time.
Is this what you experienced?
Currently my jeep is bone stock, 05 TJL with 6 speed.

My best mileage was on the highway with the hard top at 70mph. It was 19.4mpg. Did it twice. Usually, I get 16.5 with the top on and 15mpg with the top off.

I have never seen my mpg for a tank above 19 mpg. I have come close a couple of times. I am in the mid 18's on the highway...with a lead foot.

I hope, I hope, I hope I get about 14.5mpg for short trips, but I once saw 17 on an all highway run, once. I have over 5,000 miles on mine, a K&N filter, 4 inch lift/33" tires, and it hasn't gotten better for me. I gave up and got a motorcycle for those days I just wanna go and burn up the miles.
