First, right now I am on a budget. I need to mount my spare tire....33X12.5. I'm looking for some suggestions on mounting it. Do I need to buy a whole new bumper w/ the swing away mount, or is it safe to just upgrade the mount on the door for now? Thanks in advance! Busy Busy JN

Skip the tire carrier and go with this: www.quadratec.com/products/12041_100.htmYou've got the rack... If you get a tire carrier, skip the warn. I have it and kind of regret it. Only becuase all the other tire carriers out there have spots for your hi-lift and maybe even a jerry can. Also, if you get a bumper/carrier combo get one with the fliping latch. The warn has a spring loaded pin that just drops down and it's a PITA for my wife to get it open, and we both need to give it a little bump to close it.

better yet - get yourself a couple of ratcheting tie down straps and snug it down to your wilderness rack

I should have said this, but I kayak all the time, and am utilizing the rack a lot. I guess if the tire didn't conflict w/ the yaks I'd do it. I also sometimes consider selling the rack, but we'll see. Now that time is opening up, I hope to add much needed toys to the jeep.

I got the Bestop tire carrier when we got the lift and tires, almost three years ago. It's a good, stiff carrier, but is incompatible with a body lift. I understand this has been fixed in later revisions.
The Bestop also has not previsions for jerry cans or hi-lift.
Here is something to consider, although its certainly fringe. I drilled and tapped my KOZ Offroad bumper as an onboard air tank. You might keep this in mind in making your choice. A bumper/carrier combo could be a nice sized air tank in the future.

The latch is just too simple of a design to be ultra quiet. i just added a rubber peice made to match the bumpers on your tailgate to push the carrier outwards when closed, sure it adds a little effort when closing but, I'd rather do that and have a stationary, quiet tire carrier. An in reguards to not being hi-lift and jerry can incompatible, I believe Durango 4X4 has made attachments for the Warn to be able to hold these. Sure there are better ones out there, but for what it is... a simple, SIMPLE, tire carrier, I like it.

Thanks for the info, and I'm still debating on what to do. I know that in a couple years, a heavy tire will eventually bend the tailgate due to it being hollow. Another choice will be a new bumper w/ a swing out carrier. I guess my next question is, who has what, and how do they feel about what they are running. Also, did you relocate the 3rd brake light higher, add it to the middle of the rim or just do away with it? -JN

Thanks for the direct to something that may work. -------------------------------------------------- The bumper works for me.... I took off the 3rd brake light over 2 years ago and haven't missed it. I've recvd no harassment. JN, you should look into a LED brake light bar and mount it to the back of the rack. That'd look sharp.

I have the Jeeperman and like it. I was able to install it by myself, which was no easy feat as I am mechanically impared. Went together really easily. I did drop one of the nuts into the bumper which was an ordeal trying to find another that would work correctly. It had a handle welded to it so that you could hold it to get it started. There are now two extra nuts on the inside of the bumper that I can not get out. I ordered the third brakelight which fits in the center of the tire carrier and it works great. They have optional jerry can holders, air tank holders, and safari rack which bolt right on. There service was good and I ordered it from REDROCK4X4.COM which is a stocking dealer and got it quickly. They have been very easy to deal with.

I'll give a quick update:
I put the 33x12.5r15's on the stock ravine rim, and so far raised the 3rd brake light up 1 inch. A friend is fabbing up a bit of an extension to the original carrier, beefing it up for strenth, and hopefully we'll have it on in a day or so. Hopefully everything goes as measured, cause I need this done for wheelin this weekend!~JN

I added some rubber to the 3 rear snubbers, raised the 3rd brake light 1" and have a 1.25" body lift and put the tire on. I know a few guys that have done it this way for years. The trick is to get the 3 rear snubbers snug to the spare tire so it does not shake. So far so good.
