Who's running them, good tire or not? I'm still running the TrXus M/T radials, and have been the worst tires for street. They have 15K miles on them, and are almost warn down. Plus one of them was warped from the get go. I don't have a lot of $$$ to put into a expensive sets of tires, but I'm hoping the Swampers are better. Quadratec says anywhere from 25-40K...we'll see. Just a note...the TrXus M/T did however get me through everything the trail had to offer. THx-JN

Are the swampers a bias ply tire? Seems that they are good off-road, but pretty much wear down to nothing in short order on the street. This is what I've read about these tires... I think the radials last a little longer, but not much.

Just a thought...since you seem to like the swampers offroad. why not get a set on some cheap steelies and just use them offroad. Then they will last a lot longer. You might also check www.tirerack.com for user reviews on all tires.

The swamper are a great off road tire you can drop them down to 4psi and and craw up anything, the down side is I have never known anyone to get great mileage out of them, Firestone destination MT have been holding up on some Cherokees and work great off road just 2 cents, by the way still running Goodyear MTR 15,000 on them about half tread.

Hi Jeepnut,
For a TJ I used to own..
In the past I had 25k on a set of 31 TSL Bias plys (highway commute, around town and trail riding) -They were verey noisy on the street, a little slippery, but not too bad on wet roads, and they did well in the snow and were great offroad ! (the trails by me are mostly muddy atv trails in swamps and forests, i can't say how they would do in western rockcrawling stuff.)
From there I went to 33x10.50 TSL radials - they were quieter and handeled better on the street in all conditions. Off road, they were no where near as good. The center lugs on that size radial TSL were continous and looked like two Z patters all around the tire, they could not bite into the mud as well as the traditional TSL pattern. I put 10k on them and sold them, they wore very well for the 10k.
From there I went with 34x10.50 Bias LTB's. They were brutal to keep balanced, really noisy on the road, and handeld on the road "ok". Off road they were excellent. I was able to climb muddy slopes that the radial TSL's could not even attempt. They also worked great in very deep snow both on and off the road. I sold that TJ with 15k on the LTB's and they were is good shape then.
This time around in doing a " very little" build on the LJ, I'm going to try the 31 SSR's. They are 31.5x10.50 so they are almost as tall as a regular 32" tire. The reviews I've read on line lead me to believe they will be better than the TSL radial's I ran in the past off road, I'll have to see how they do on road.
Hope any of this helped.
