I recently went from the stock 3.73 to 4.56 with ARB lockers in the front and back of my '04 Unlimited. The gears have close to 500 miles on them and I have changed the oil. Oil is purging out of the rear diff breather vent just inside of the fuel tank inlet. Although the ARB install manual suggests that drilling drain holes in the axle shafts may be necessary my installer does not agree. The fluid level is now well below the fill port.
Have any of you experienced the same purging after a re gear and ARB install? What was your solution if you did?
Thanks!

Its fine. Its not supposed to be filled up to the fill port. I agree with your installer. It will purge all the extra oil out. I definately wouldnt drill holes in the axle shafts.

Your installer is wrong. I have the exact same setup as you. I had the same problem. There was a change in 04 and you very definately need to open up the holes. I had to take mine back and have them redo the holes. My installer even called ARB to ask. They said yes, you have to open up the drain. There is a writeup on this at WWW. Stu-offroad.com . Stu helped me out when mine did not work right. Once the drain was opened everything worked great. Good luck!

Well the installer decided the drain holes in the D44 were needed and that problem is solved. I asked if it would be needed for the D30 up front and was told no. Oil comes out of the exhaust of the solenoid for the front ARB so back in it goes again.

I didn't have any problems with the front. I can't say if they drilled that one on installation or not. But at least you know what to look for. Once you get this fixed you WILL love the ARB's.

Yeah, I'm thinking this one may be an ARB o-ring as the solenoid exhaust is just a little bit higher than the axle breather vent which shows no sign of having vented oil. I did take it out last weekend on a route with a couple of places to enjoy being locked...........wow, what a difference! ;D
