Yes you will need the spacers, because the back spacing on the stock Ravines is to much. I think it's 5.50" and you need 3.75-4.00 " But just a thought. The wheel spacers are about 250.00 for a set. If you sold your stock wheels and tires and put the money into new rims with the right backspacing you may be about even. Some people shy away from the spacers. For what it's worth. Good luck!

I know when I re-did my wheels I got 4 stealies from 4 wheel parts for about $160 with the right backspacing..little bit cheaper and more durable in the long run, but then again I wasn't too crazy about the ravines myself so I wanted to do it anyway...just my

..little bit cheaper and more durable in the long run... Steal wheels are not more durable...especially in the long run. ( I do speak from experience and am not just e-spouting off. ) Steel wheels can bend and do bend. They don't hold air worth a crap anymore after they do bend. The nice thing about them, is that for another $37-$40 you can replace your wheel completely. Different strokes for different folks! ryan

Go ahead man, take the plunge. The Ravins are nice, but spending money on spacers, that will run you around 120-130 bucks a pair new, you can get some really nice wheels. I spent 76.99 each on wheels and there better and more aggressive looking than the stock ravines. oh yea, the center caps were and extra 9.00 a piece.

Thanks for the input so far... but you guys are killing me, your making good points. I was already on the fence about spacers vs. wheels. $250 for spacers is a bit hefty, but the wheels I'd like to drop money on are quite a bit more- Although I do like the black Craigers in the pic (Jeepnut: simulated street legal beadlocks?).
My origional motivation for trying to work with the stock rims are that I like the stock look, I don't want anything I'll have to polish and I'm not quite sure I like the black Craiger style as much. Here may be my defining questions on the rims: Are the steelies less durable than the stock Ravines like Ryan mentioned? And does the "Hubcentric" comments on one of the links I listed hold water?
I realize I may be over analyzing this whole thing but I'm just trying to spend wisely. My wish list is much deeper than my pockets. You all know what I'm talking about...I'm beginning to preach to the choir.
By the way, before I forget, thanks to all for all the information and discussions on this site. Nearly all of my questions were answered by reading everyon elses stuff.

Yea they are simulated, to keep it street legal. I just think it looks cool too.

eric it is a tough decision on wether to go w/ new wheels or spacers. I'm in the same boat... Keep my Moabs and toss $250 into spacers to run 35's on or spend alot more to get the wheels I would like to get. I always swore to myself after my last Jeep build-up that no matter the cost, (and that meant if I didn't have the money I would wait until I did), I would try to stick to the philosophy of, "Do it once and, Do it right." For me that just means not tossing money into something, that down the road, I would want to exchange for other parts, etc. JEEP~ Just Eats Every Penny...... couldn't be more true! good luck ryan

I hear ya RubiRed about holding out and doing it right the first time. As tempting as it was, I refrained from doing the BB because I knew I really wanted the OME. When I mentioned the "wheels I'd like," I should have said the wheels I'd consider. I like the AEV's and MT's a little more than the Ravines but not $150-$180 a piece more if you know what I mean. To me that's vanity money and I'd rather put towards other things like undercarriage armor which is most likley my next planned purchase. Which leads to my next question: which area is the most prone to damage? As far as armor goes, which should be my first priority: oil pan skid, steering box, radiator, etc. And should this question be posted on a new thread to get the most responses?

Eric I'll just toss in my $.02 on armor... Steering box & oil pan would be my first choicess and, the both of them together won't break the bank. If you whack your oil pan on something, and put a hole in it, you're not going anywhere. So oil pan is way up there on my list. And I always just thought the steering box was in a vulnerable spot and should've come from the factory with a skid plate. In no particular order then would be HD tie rod, diff guards/covers, CA skids, t-case, corners, rockers and, then I'd think about the gas tank. (the newer factory gas tank skids are way better than the old ones that were on the TJ's)

I thought I posted a reply on this one... the Jeep looks great! Based on your and Moneypit's LJ's, I know I'm going to be really pleased with my set-up. But my patience is running low though, I have to look at my OME HD lift and spacers still in the box everytime I go into the Garage. Other priorities keep getting in the way. Being responsible can be a pain in the a$$ sometimes.
