Okay as I'm sure you know I just got a lift put on. I'm running 33x12.5" tires on 15x8" rims. The guy said I needed to go get an alignment, which was obvious because my steering wheel is about 90 degrees off. He also said two of my tires were really hard to balance, and needed a lot of weight. When I drive on a highway, at speeds 50mph or higher instead of the steering wheel vibrating a lot, the whole jeep does. Is this normal. Will just an alignment help this? Also do I need to change the gears on my speedometer? Or a chip maybe to fix the speedometer? A friend/Trucker told me about a new way to balance tires. It sounded weird to me, but may work. They put a bag like substance in the tire, and when it heats up, melts to the area that needs balance. I may look into this deeper. Its just a new thing they do, but usually for tractor trailers. Thanks ahead for any advice!!

You don't need to go get an alaignment. Save your money and do it yourself. The only thing you can do is adjust your toe in- toe-out. This is easily done with a friend and a tape measure. Same with your steering wheel. You just have to adjust your drag link. It's a 10 minute fix. Go to www.stu-offroad.com/steering/align/align-1.htm and look at Stus' write up. If your toe-in is way out you can get some vibes. Do that first and then address the tires. My 1 set of tires was to hard to balance and they replaced the tire for free. As for the speedo gear, If you have a Rubicon it's a electric gear. I think you have to get it done at the dealer. If it's a regular LJ its a simple fix also. I got my speedo gear at the dealer for about 15.00. I know I have the chart somewhere to tell you which gear you need. Stus' site may have that writeup as well. If you don't find it let me know I'll dig it up.

Thats good info, but will that also adjust my steering wheel back into the regular stance? Its currently turned about 90 degrees to the right.
Modify: nevermind...I didn't go to the second page???!
Also, how off is the speedometer? 5mph? faster/slower than actual speed?

www.raingler.com/tech/speedoChart.aspThe above link will tell you which gear you need. If you have the stock 3:73 gears look at the stock 30" tires and it will tell you what you now have. Then look at the 33" tires that you added and it will tell you the new gear you need. The same website as the last post (Stus-offroad) has a great write up on replaceing the gear yourself.

IMO i would go with 4.56 gears with 33's. When I get ready to slap 35s on mine I'm going to 4.88s! The black steelies are always hard to get balanced. I will try and find it but there is one tire balancing machine that can balance these very well. I will try to find it and get back to you. BB's in the tires will also work if you wanna go that route!

I'm going with the bags. The shop will put bags inside the tire, it will then melt in the tire, and go to the part that will need balancing. They have been doing it to trucks now for awhile and just started w/vehicles with opversized tires. 8 bucks a bag, no weights and never breaks down! I'll let everybody here know how it works when I get them on.

www.4x4xplor.com/alignment.htmlhere's the site I used for alignment and to straighten my steering. VERY SIMPLE!!! I did it in 30 minutes by myself. I STRONGLY suggest doing it...my toe was off almost 2"!!! after doing my lift and tires..... that will wear down a NEW set of tires in NO TIME!!
