Hello Folks
After viewing all of the jeeps in person at the Chicagoland Toys 4 Tots this past weekend...I am thinking about getting some new tires and a body lift. What do you guys think about 31" and 32" size tires? I was thinking about some BFGs ATs or maybe some MTRs. What size and what kind of lift will I need (no more than 2")? How much do these lifts run for?
Keep in mind that I will primarily use my LJ for city commutes.
All opinions and pictures are welcomed.

Hey Alan, I did not see you at the TFT's run. There were 2 guys with stock silver LJ's near me that I talked to. Then I saw the built up LJ Rubicon and 1 black LJ with a lady sitting in the passenger seat. I never saw a driver, was that you? If so I was not that far ahead of you a row over. My Jeep is shown in the thread about the TFT's run. I just posted some pictures of the day. I run 32" tires with the Old Man Emu lift. It's an Austrailian lift and is real nice. It adds about 2 1/2 " of lift. But you will have to change your wheels if you want to go to 32x11.5 tires. That is what I have on in the picture. The backspacing on the stock wheels is 5.5" and that wide of tire will rub. The lift cost about $700.00 and took me about 10 hours to install working alone. You may be able to run 31"x 10.5" on your stock rims I'm not sure. I have read that some guys buy the Rubicon springs off of Ebay for under $100.00. I believe that the Rubi stock springs are 1" taller then the regular LJ springs. The Rubi comes with 31" tires so that would be an easy 1" lift to go up 1 " in tire size.

Money...Thanks for the tips. The rubicon springs seem to be a quick and frugal way to get started with some 31"x 10.5s. I may need your help installing.

You can start with the 31's only at first, while you plan the lift...you do not need any type of lift to fit this size tire, but it does lok pretty nice with an extra 2" of height.

Axe- If the Rubi springs will provide 1" more, (not sure if this is correct or Not!?), then spend the extra hundred and go with a BB w/ shocks. This will net you a solid 1.75"-2" at all four corners. This is more than enough for 31's and you could easily run 32's. (as long as you adjust the bumpstops) The BB seems to be the first step in many a Jeepers series of mods to their Jeeps. This is my second Jeep that I've started off with a BB. The first TJ I ran 32" Swampers with just a BB and soon realized that Swampers ran BIG! A BB doesn't really require ANY special tools for install, and allows for an almost stock like ride. And if you are set on, or would like 33's, a 1"BL/1"MM will allow ample room for those 33's. just a thought, ryan

I'm learning as I go.. But what is a BB? BL=body lift? MM=motor mount? Sorry if this seems stupid but all these abreviations are a B!tch to figure out. Thanks

Yes...that was my wife keeping warm There is a set of Rubicon LJ springs on Ebay now for $75.00 plus shipping. Also several sets at $100.00-110.00. They do give you 1-1 1/2" of lift. Easy start to a lift. Add some coil spaces (BB) and your ready to go. One thing to also consider. If you just do the Rubicon springs and not the spacers and run 31" tires I think you will not disturb your factory warrenty. How can Chrysler argue that the factory springs from a Rubicon caused any problems, since your LJ is basicly the same vehicle. If you want help installing them let me know. Sorry I missed you at the TFT's run. I should of knocked on the window and asked your wife but I didn't remember your name and she may have thought I was nuts.

The Info I have is that the rubi springs are not taller. The difference in ride height comes from the ultra-high pressure gas shocks that come from the factory on the rubi. I understand they take almost 70 lbs to compress so in effect they impart aprox. 280 lbs of upward force on the body The difference in spring part #s is usually due to hard top or soft top options As for a lift recommendation, for 32" tires , I have the JKS A.C.O.S. maxed out at about 2.5" of lift net, Rancho 9000x adjustable shocks for a 2-4" lift, and goodyear MTR 235/85R16 tires on Jeep liberty factory steel wheels . Great combo for the desert trails(narrow track) and daily driving out here in AZ

rubicon springs are the same as stock LJ springs - we have the same high pressure shocks too. you could bump to 31's without a lift. . . . then do a budget boost later, or spring the budget boost and 31's now.
If I'm not mistaken, 32's will fit under a budget boost, but if you run with the swaybar disconnected, they will rub.
I would recommend starting w 31's (BFG's are going to be my next tire) and if you feel you want a BB, then get it.
