i would like to put an 8inch woofer to replace the factory woofer, how do i do that? i'll have all day sunday to do it myself so yeah.... help...?

whats wrong with the factory one? I think my jeep came with almost all options except the sub it would be nice if i had any bass at all. I found a site where a guy did that ill have to look for it and see if i can add a link.

Pretty sure all you need to do is push your driver's seat up and forward. Unscrew a few screws on the side of the console and then unscrew the speaker. I'll probaly do the same thing this Winter...I'd like to replace the speakers in the soundbar too. Nothing too expensive just a good aftermarket replacement...the stock system is "okay" at best....but since it's a Jeep, I'm not going to be adding some high dollar sound system... WAY TOO EASY TO GET STOLEN.

Don't get me wrong...it sounds good with the 7 speaker system, but the speakers in my soundbar always sound distorted, to the point that I have to turn the bass all the way down. The subwoofer does a fine job, but to be able to hear the radio over my tires and the wind noise it has to be fairly loud, and that's when they start "farting out"...

My very first Mod was getting rid of the 7 speaker sound system. I put in an Alpine with a removeable faceplate, for security and I replaced all the speakers but the sub. I would just ask when you buy the Sub that the deck unit has enough power to move it. If I am not mistaken isn't the sub a 6"? What a big differance in sound quality. I wish you didn't have to get the factory stuff. For what they charge you can get a real good after market setup.

Tag - What jets have you worked on. I worked F-111s in the USAF and F-16s in the Texas ANG.
I don't like the performance of the stock system. The base doesn't have much punch and the other speakers don't have very good seperation. I saw a write up where someone cut a door into the panel under the rear passenger roll bar mount and mounted an amp and subwoofer. It would be nice have a bigger and more secure center console.

I replaced all my speakers - including my sub. Below is a link that will give you an idea of how to make a custom sub box for an 8" sub. You will also need some place to put an amp. You will lose your coin bin if you go with a custom box. I used the same basic design and put in a 10" sub. I found a cheap ($40) Sony Xplode that is just shallow enough to fit in the center console with only a little bulge. There is just enough room on top to put in a couple pens and small stuff. belfast, you using the stock radio or what? sound guy at my the shop that my alarm was installed at said that the hookups for the small amp in the console were tiny wires. do you have an amp dedicated to your sub? where's it mounted, etc. thanks in advance man. . . i'm pretty interested in doing something like that.

I am using a stock Chrysler stereo (I swapped the stereo with my Ram 1500 before selling it). It has both CD and tape deck as well as it worked better with my iPod hookup (to the stock cd changer line in). I have an amp on the floor under the driver's seat (I want to relocate it to a higher area in case water ever pools up). The amp was a cheap $100 deal, the sub was $40. I used MDF I had laying around. The curved area where the e-brake is was crafted with fiberglass. Took a few hours of work and two tries - the first went with the same measurements as in the link above. The second I did piece by piece with trial and error, trimming it to fit until it all came together. I unfortunately didn't take any pics while I did it. I do have some pics of it installed (its a pain in the butt to take off the center console, but next time I do it I will take pics of the sub box itself). Here it is from the top. The wire and metal box you see is the hookup for my Cobra 75WXST CB - you can see the hookup in the other picture below. As you can see, you sacrifice a little storage room. Here it is with the driver's seat folded forward. I have since cleaned up the wires a bit. I cut the original wire harness of the stock sub before I sold it and used it for the amp hookup. The red wire is going under the seat, through the firewall, and to the battery (w/fuse, of course). I was able to use one of the original power lines from the stock sub (too low of a voltage to power the new amp) to turn on and off the amp when the stock head unit turns on and off. Here you see it is almost completely hidden. You can see the amp, but the sub is completely hidden. You can also see the input for the handset of my Cobra 75WXST CB. After my enlistment was up I did a stint in the Florida ANG where I worked on F16's. I now work as a civilian for the Navy where I worked on the engines for the Navy's A4, A7, A6, EA6B, S3, F18, F18 Super Hornet and the USAF's F117, and the A10. (Yes the Navy does work on USAF stuff) Plus a lot of component work on too many planes to mention. Wow, after reading that I'm tired now.
