hey everybody! I am a proud, 1st time Jeep owner! 2005 Unlimited w/ 6spd manual. I have only had it 2 days but have a concern about a noise that seems to come from the trans. While sitting in neutral and depressing the clutch then releasing the clutch I hear a clank...its not really very loud but noticable....Is this just a normal sound from the clutch plate? or other problems?
Also, I have noticed the same kind of sound when shifting at anything over 3,000 rpm from 2nd to 3rd. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I'm glad you brought this up, I've heard of similar stories about similar sounds with the 6 speeds... Not a grinding but a clunking sound.. Just stay aware of it while in warranty & at the 1st bit of worsening I'd take it in to have it at least documented as to what you are experiencing (again, while it's under warranty) Any other 6 speeders hear anything similar? Yes, I have the clunky trans too. It almost seems like it is gear lash. It is not a smooth shifting transmission. I find I have to really slow down my shifts for it to not have that clunk feel when going into gear.

I get the same think. My old YJ did the same thing. I figure it is the clutch disk starting to spin the main shaft making this noise (when not in any gear).
I could be wrong though. Both my manual cars do this.
