Hello folks, I am going to install a locker in the rear end, but I do not know if it a 27 or a 30 spline type. How do I find this out?

Depends how you use it. You can choose from a LSD or a Lunchbox or even a full carrier replacement like the Detroit. How are you planning on using the Jeep ? We were all new once my friend ;D

Of course, you already have an LSD in the DANA 44.

Yes we do. I am going to get a Lock right differential put in. Just a weekend Jeep thing, and a daily driver. No rock hanging with this one, dont' have it paided off yet. What do you think is the best ?

I wish I had some experience to draw upon, but alas, that is not the case. My current plan is to drop a Lockright in the front, when I get some spare change. The last loose change was spent getting her ready to tow our camper. We're spending a week in the San Juans (Colorado) in June and there's no way I'm leaving the Jeep behind.
I can't wait to get the front locked. There's so many trails in Arizona that would be much easier without that open front diff. At least I could stop taking some of the bypasses.

Definitely do the Lock Right up front. The "lunch box" lockers like that are invisible on the road while in 2WD and will blow your mind in the dirt once you throw it into 4WD. Since you have and LSD in the rear I would just leave it. Although the trac-loks aren't the best in the market they are better than an open differential. It's nice that they are a standard feature now, I thought that they were still an option. With a front locker, rear LSD and a mild lift with some meatier tires, you will be amazed at where your rig will be taking you ;D

OK cool. I was going to put a Lock-right in the rear. But after talking to powertrak, there is a little noise with them when turning, but how much noise is there, can anyone tell me? He did tell me about the NO-slip ones that will not make that clicking when turning, but at about $410.00!! The others, lock-right I have found for 247.65. Will it matter? Also can anyone tell me more about the standard equipment- Trac-Lok diffs- will it be better to but lockers in the rear, or is the TRAC-LOK just as good off road in the mud, sand , etc. ?

If you were going to get into offroading big time, I'd consider a locker. From what it sounds like your going to be doing, I'd stick with your Trac-Loc. Lockers in the rear tend to have some bad side effects for the daily driver (ie clicking, unloading, faster tire wear). A LSD will never perform as well as a full on locker in the dirt, but a full on locker will never perform as good as an LSD on the road. Pick your poison I guess. If it were me, I'd lock the front and keep the Trac-Loc in the rear. Look up Performance Offroad Center (PORC) and give them a call. Tell them your a member of Jeepforum and they'll beat that Lock-Right price by a landslide.

OK Cool, I'm learning. So how do you use the TRAC-LOK diff? Use alittle rear break when you have one heel in the air, another on the ground?
I have read the lock-right, I like it, and the price is really nice, its a wife thing, most of you understand it. But what about the NO-Slip one? I need to pick my battles on this one.
One last thing, what they write about the lockers, is it ture what they claim ?

Remember Albeham, you may have to buy a new carrier to fit a Lockrite into your rear diff. Make sure they offer a locker that fits the limited-slip carrier. As far as side effects when driving... yes there will be clicking when tight or slow cornering and tire wear will be accelerated. Also remember when running any locker, the rolling circumference between the two rear tires becomes very critical. I believe the Lockrite manuel recommends only 3/16 difference max between the two rear tires. I had Lockrites front and rear in my XJ, the rear one I hardly, but the front one gave a lot of feedback but only when slow and tight. I wheeled with only the rear locked-up for four or five years before locking-up the front. Unless yopu have plenty of wheeling experience I would suggest doing the same. You will become a far better driver if you hone your skills without traction assistance, i.e a locker. Just my .02$, enjoy your Unlimited.
