Hey everyone. I inquired about sidesteps/rocker guards, but now torn between the Jeepermans and a body mount version (shrockworks, or atoz etc.). I like the clearance of the body mount versions, but I don't rockcrawl....mostly trails, mud, mild rockcrawling. I also would prefer not to drill holes. Cost is also a concern. I am trying to keep the cost down, even if I have to sacrifice a little. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I really like my Jeeperman Trail Skidz. I have had them up against trees, stumps, dirt, rocks, etc...and they are doing everything I needed from them. I'm never going to be a hardcore rock crawler, so that extra 2" of clearance isn't going to kill me. They still set up higher than your frame rails do, so I'm fine with that. Another nice feature is that with the step there, if you get into a "tippy" situation (which I did this past situation), I was able to get 2 guys to stand on the rail and keep the weight balanced while I got through a tight spot. They had about 400 pounds standing on them and they didn't budge. I'd recommend them to anyone...

It looks like I am going to get the Jeeperman's since you suggetsted them before. I will never be a heavy rockcrawler either. I read that they do not offer as much protection, but I love that I do not have to drill the body. In Newfoundland, we get a lot of snow, and salt on the roads, so rust is a concern
Did you buy them painted, or paint yourself???
Did you buy them direct??? or through another dealer???
Thanks in advance!

I bought mine direct from Jeeperman (Raingler.com). I paid extra to have them powdercoated.

You can do FAR worse than Shrockworks: The fit-and-finish was perfect, they were easy to install, and they could take a direct hit from a T-72. And Shrokworks is a great company to do business with (not that Jeeperman isn't).

I agree...I think Shrockworks and A to Z make an outstanding product. I was darn close to getting a set from them, but decided the Jeeperman skidz would be a better step for the wife to get in and out of the Jeep. She doesn't complain about any modifications to the Jeep as long as she can still get in and out without falling on her face...so, in a strange sort of way my rocker gaurds were an "investment" towards other accessories

I'm still torn on just these points also, body mount, step for wife, ease of install, price, quality, etc.. I like the overall A to Z package so far & wonder if he could address some of these issues for us & be involved here as opposed to pimping his co & leaving.. I say that in the friendliest way too- don't take me wrong

I thought that the rail would make a great step. It doesn't when you're lifted 4" and on 33" tires. You have to put your foot so high that only a gymnast could press up into the rig. That's not to say I don't like the rails. They look good and give me some more stand-off distance. I've seen other rigs pivot on the rails and I want that as far away from the body as possible.
