Well guys i'm back in a Jeep. I've spent the last seven years in german cars the last of which (Audi S4 with 350hp V8) i sold to buy the new unlimited. The germans put everything you could ask for in their cars but the ability to go off road. I live around Atlanta so its not so far to get up into the mountains and that is where i love to be. I love german cars but i dont miss them. It feels soo great to be back in a Jeep. Anyways on to the good stuff. Its a 2006 black on black unlimited with 4 1/2" suspension lift and 2" body lift. Warn bumpers front and back and warn tire swingaway door. 35" Pro Comp mud terrains 16" teflon coated American Racing wheels Hella lamps Warn 9000 winch Hardtop & Soft top Ordered: 48" jack bestop bikini top Jeep slush mats front & rear Any other ideas? Here are some pictures:

Welcome aboard My only suggestions (if they aren't done already) would be to re-gear it for the bigger tires, go with a heavy duty steering set-up (also for the bigger tires), and maybe throw a locker on each axle... The Jeep looks great as is.

Unless you are going to wheel the heck out of it, hold off on the complete steering upgrade & maybe just get a beefier tie-rod for the time being. And if the gears aren't done, definitely get those when you can.......those 35's have to be robbing alot of your power.

Nice ride, welcome to the board! I know what you mean about the German cars. We have a BMW Z3. W hen I got my LJ I just never drove it anymore. We put 600 miles on it last year. So it's up for sale. If I want the top down, I drive the Jeep. Anyone want a low mileage car?

Thanks guys!
Yeah I had been reading up on gearing for tire size. Obviously i cant tell if they have been done by looking at it.
I'm thinking that it might be done because it actually has decent power down low and has pretty good pickup (remember i just came from a car that does 0-60 in 5 sec.) I picked it up in Charlotte and drove it 4 hours back to Atlanta. I think my top speed was 70 mph down hill. Does that sound right?
Believe it or not it is actually very liberating not having to worry about police.
Thanks for the advice guys!

Thats a NICE LJ!
If you jack up the axle in the middle, and its an open diff, hold one tire and spin the other. Then count how many times the driveshaft or pinion turns to make two full rotations on the tire.
It's two times because its an open diff, if it was locked, it would be one time.
HTH, Jered

Also, if you had thought about the steering, I'd first think about skid plates . (oil pan, gas tank) -Max

Went off roading 2 weekends ago, I would suggest the oil pan skid for sure. Son crushed his oil pan on 2005 Rubi Unlimited. Stealer cost to replace was $5 hundred and change. Oil pan was 140 & gasket 50 rest was labor. They did not put the transmission skid back on, said it was dented to bad and would not fit, actually all the holes lined up but they spun one of the nutserts loose and it was just turning in its hole. Complained to the service manger today, he said he would look into it. I got it fixed by friend with mig welder, tacked the nutsert then reinstalled the transmission skid. I have orderred nth degree mobility oil pan skid,

Asking that kind of question on a Jeep forum will get you a laundry list large enough to guarantee a divorce. Welcome to the forum and welcome back to Jeeps. I have found that some trails require lockers, and some even require the winch. However, I've always disconnected and aired down. So my most used offroad components are my quick discos and onboard air (OBA). Staun deflators are also real nice for quickly getting down to a set pressure. They also allow you to jabberjaw at the trailhead instead of nursing tire pressure. My OBA setup is also useful for the airhorns, when other drivers decide to be stupid.

Thanks for all the advice guys!
on a funny note I was following a buddy of mine up the highway, he said his speedometer was reading 72 while mine was reading 60. Thats a valuable piece of information to know. I guess the 35"s make a big difference.
