Do i need this.

I just re-tightened my track bar and there is pin that goes in through the hole were the nut is so now i cant put the pin back cause the hole is half blocked by the nut. Do i really need this pin or do not need it. here are some pics of what im talking about.

If it were me, I'd either back it off a hair (or tighten it just enough to get an opening) and put that cotter pin in. It is really only there to keep the nut from backing out, that's it. Chances of it happening are probably pretty slim, but you gotta figure those components take a beating and a lot of vibration. If it truly wasn't needed, they wouldn't have it. Wouldn't want to be on the hwy at 65 and have that track bar bolt back its way loose. Play it safe, prob just a little too tight, just liner 'er up. Only needs to be just tight enough to clear the hole, wouldn't want to over torque it down way past that.

I tightened it a little more and it went in. what would happen if it were over tightened. I don't want anything happening while on the highway.

You did the right thing. It is a tapered fit so you don't want it on the loose side. The cotter pin ensures that it wont come loose.

Yep, what he said.... With a taper fit connection like that, all it would take is a couple a good hits and things could start loosening up, and then you could get the dreaded "Death Wobble"...and possibly need to replace a part or two.

Ya i went to pep boys and bought a box of new cotter pins so its a new one.
