So everyone has their preference. What I am wondering is mainly width-wise, what would you run for a 33x12.50 tire and why? There's something about the look of a little wider set of wheels, but there's also weight and other issues. Obviously going 15's is cheaper.
I have a stock Rubi LJ and thinking of going with a different wheel. Smart thing would be to go with 16's and keep the MT/Rs on there and save up for the lift/tires when the wheels are paid and can afford it. But, I think that 17x9 is looking like a good compromise between width and $. Plus the sizes for 17's are going nuts, seems more manufacturers are heading the way of the 17+ and dropping off some of the 15/16's sizes.

I like a 15x10 with a 3.75 backspacing for my 33x12.50 it makes my tires look flatter and ride great with 30 psi it is soft. aired down to 20 and I don't think it will hold a bead as good as a 15x8 wheel it a trade off.Friend had 17 in his and I didn't think there was enough tire between the wheel and street and not much sidewall protection against rocks ( just my thoughts ) what will you be doing the most wheeling on.

I am running 15X 10 with 33X12.5X15 on mine. I have MT Baja MTZ and normal pressure is 24 with offroad going to 12. I wasnt watching them very close for a couple of months and when I checked the pressure, it wouldnt register on my tire guage. It's first marking is at 10 psi. All 4 were at that pressure. I think it may have something to do with CO2 but not sure. When aired down they really have a wide footprint but pull really hard.

I'd go with the 15x8, much of the research I've read say they'll hold a bead better and offer more protection. Give DPG Off Road a call too and speak with Dirk, he'll give you some good advice too. Along with everything you read here, you'll get it right.

either buy 15X8 or stick with your stock wheels and get spydertrax..
I prefer the look and function of 8" wheels but to each his own..

I am not sure how long they had been at 10 PSI. I think it was probably a month or more as people had been telling me that they looked a little low and I had just blown it off. I have never had a tire lose that much pressure unless it had a leak and since they all looked the same I could not see it. I have now instituted a check all the tire pressure program with each oil change. I have only aired them down to 12 three times. Once in the sand and twice in the rocks. I did not have any trouble holding the bead and they preformed well each time. I was going to stay with 15X8's but my shop, www.samsoffroad.com , really recommended the 15 X 10's. It seems to work well for me.

ditto, jeepnut, for me. 3.75 back spacing. 7" flare fenders cover 'em perfectly.

I suggest more than a 2.5" difference between the wheel and tread with if you'll be airing down for trails.
I ran 15x10 for 33x12.50 MTs on my CJ for many years. I often got crap (roots/gravel, etc )stuck between the rim and bead when aired down under 20 lbs, when wheelin.
I knew I wanted to run 10.50 width on the LJ and wanted to reduce the potential for the same problem, so I tightened up the difference between the wheel width and tread with by 1". I now run the 10.50 tread on a 7" wheel, making the difference 3.5" instead of 2.5" like before. I haven't run this combo aired down yet, hopefully I'll avoid the problem.
Your 17x9 selection for a 12.50 tread will give you the same 3.5"differential that I'm running, so I voted for that Hopefully it will be enough!
HTH, good luck!

I run 15x8's with my 33x12.5 Goodyear MT/R's. If you expect to be amongst the rocks, I don't think 10" wheels would be a good choice. Even my 8" rims are beaten up pretty bad, but I can hold a bead just fine at 12psi.
